Okay so I know the Pro-668 is sold by RadioShack but, who is the radio made by?

I believe Whistler manufactured them, if I'm not mistaken.

Yes, manufactured by Whistler. The pro668 is a clone of the ws1080.

Radio Shack has said in numerous emails and other correspondence with users here that a firmware update for DMR digital would "come from the manufacturer", which we know is Whistler. Whistler, meanwhile, has made it clear that their DMR firmware upgrade is only for the Whistler models. So, there you go...

Which is an attitude that doesn't garner a large consumer base in my opinion -

It would go a long way if they decided to support RS branded owners. But, that's their call - and one that will definitely influence my next purchase.

Radio Shack would have to work out a payment deal with Whistler and possibly Motorola. That depends on the deal (contract) Whistler worked out with Motorola.
