We will just have to agree to disagree.
You should have placed your smile here and clicked send. But read on...
Please read the original post here. He was asking for someone to compare the 92 and 94. I did not see anything about the 95 originally mentioned.
No, but he did ask if "this was an upgrade", which it certainly is not, thus opening the door for other possibilities. I suggested for a few more bucks he could get a Pro-95, you disagree. The posting by Jerry after my first post, hinted about the reception of the 94, could be similar to what I get in the 2050 and 2052, you claim this problem doesn’t exist in either of your scanners.
Maybe I missed something between the lines... I do NOT own a 95. It might be a great radio. Since I do not own one, I can't comment on it. I do own a 92 and 94 (and 2052). I have not had the problems you cite with my 94 or 2052, which is very similar to a 94, as you say.

Everytime this 92/94 subject comes up, you (and others) go into overdrive to slam it. This is a hobby. We all can enjoy it! And keep in mind, some of us still program our scanners manually! :)
Sorry Tom, this is the very first time I've discussed the Pro-94 anyplace...period. And back to the original question, it will be difficult to find enthusiast in this hobby that will take your position that the Pro-94 without PC programming and alpha tags is a better scanner then one with great sensitivity and has these two features. And one thing left out of this topic is scanning conventional freqs in a trunked bank. It can't be done with the 2050 or 2052 so is this another weakness in the Pro-94? Note, certain software running with the 2052 will allow conventional and trunking at the same time, but not in the same bank. But this is no choice with the Pro-94, but an available feature in the Pro-95, one more no-brainer. :)

Fmon the new PRO-94 available as of NOW at RS does have an PC/IF port.

Not to mention the the 95... correct me if I am wrong.. is 1000 chans.. like the 94,.. only does Motorola and Edacs analog like the 94,.. and originally was just a souped up 94 with a PC/IF port...... just made by GRE not uniden ... Nothing really changed till the PRO-96 and PRO-99 came out...

Sorry milf, I was unaware of the PC/IF port in the 94. How does it function, who's software etc? The 95 is 500 channels like the 96 but has 5 subbanks of 20 ID's each where the 96 has 5 with 30 each. And like the 94 and 93, the 95 will only do the two popular trunking systems.

The 94 and 2052 are both 1000 channels.

BTW, Eric Cottrell has a new slicer for LTR trunking somewhere in todays messages. Pro92b and Lou have both contributed to his efforts (I think). Looks great.

Right now the only software for the new 94's is RS's stuff.. untill Don gets ahold of it LOL.. and the 94 B will do both conventional and trunking at the same time :) just wish it had been able to do military air... at least its big bro the 2052 did mil air....... And cant wait to see what becomes of the LTR slicer... maybe the first REALLY functional LTR Passport trunk tracking system is not far off??? :) Anyway.... I am happy with my 92 B and its performance is living up to what I got it for........ once the cash flow is up again.. I am gonna have to get the 96 though,.. or maybe the 2096 will FINALLY be out by the time the money is available??? LOL

Although I would love to take credit, I really didn't have anything to do with Eric's work. I do applaude his untiring efforts though. :)

Yep.

Nope. The Pro-95 is a 1000 channel Dual Trunking scanner. 10 banks of 100 channels. There is additionally 5 sub-banks consisting of 20 locations for the use of 100 TG locations per bank. This allows the memory management of the Pro-95 to be simple(see note), 100 locations for a frequency and 100 sub-banks (5*20) for TG's for each bank. There are 1000 total channel locations and 1000 TG locations.

IMHO, for programming manually I preffer the 95. Although I am somewhat used to programming the 94, I prefer the 95 method. I personally think the 94 programming method is kludgey and the manual is terrible. And that's all I'll say on the debate. Again these are only personal opinions. ;)

Note: I am not an expert on the guts or memory of the Pro-95, nor do I play one on TV. This is a deduction from programming memory managers in the past on PC's. ;)

Thanks for the reminder Michael.

I sit  corrected, 1000 channels. I sold my 95 a year ago after receiving my 96. How we forget, but the real error is, an owner’s manual for the 95 is within my reach. I should have verified before correcting milf.

I believe Lindsay hinted about this in his Emily Post  notations in “Etiquette and the Forums” the other day. I always figured if you got the groceries shoveled in it makes no difference what utensil one uses, similar to Charlie McCarthy’s sidekick Mortimer Snerd using a butter knife to scoop peas off the plate and tumble down the blade to his throat. This RR member will need to work on "Let a dead horse die" and " Resist the urge". And maybe others...

I own both the PRO-94a and the PRO-95. Overall, the PRO-95 is a better scanner. But there are TWO things the PRO-94 does that the PRO-95 doesn't.

1) You can't lock out talkgroups in open mode on the PRO-95. If you are trying to find new talkgroups or building up a database on a very busy system, this is a big negative in the PRO-95. Especially if a lot of the talkgroups are digital.

The PRO-94 you can scan in "open mode" and lock out talk groups.

2) The PRO-94 has a light on function set to the squelch. Meaning when a talkgroup is active on the PRO-94, the backlight will come on. This feature is missing on the PRO-95. Maybe not a big deal to many of you, but I operate my scanner a lot in the dark.

Now the PRO-95 has many advantage including text labels, computer cloning and programming via Win95 software, only having to put in the control channel on Motorola based trunking systems etc.

As stated lol the 94 has the autobacklight.. and there is NO open or closed on the 94/2052.. and the 94 A was an ok scanner but the B version had it beat with both trunkscan and conventional scan at the same time. Now the 94 C adds PC/IF,.. this means eventually Win94 or the like will be written.. but anyway.. since most of scannerheads need alpha tagging, CTCSS/CDCSS decoding, LTR capabilities,.. it kinda puts the 94 out of the game.... and if you need digital the 96 kills the 94 all day long.. the only feature that so far on new models RS is messing up is taking out the LTR trunking..... thats the only place where Uniden kills them in portable digital scanners.. and the fact that RS has YET to release the PRO-2096 base/mobile. GRRRRR...

On a side note: History repeats itself with Uniden.. the BC250 was originally a base scanner and was way back before TRS, or digital syatems were really feasable.... now its reborn in the form of a digital capable (with the extra card) portable. Hmm maybe in ten years the next BC250 will be a base/mobile that has an onscan button (pun on the onstar service,... OnScan: A anywhere accessible online scanning database for Uniden Customers.....)

with apologies...

until uniden updates their database, the possibility of an "on-scan" system would pale compared to the one we are in right now....

on thread here: generally i prefer the 95 to the 94 because of the ease of operation... i don't own one but work with one almost daily. i would spend the extra bucks and snag a 95.

Actually there is, it is simply not called open or closed mode on the PRO-94. You can either scan an entire trunked system and lock out talkgroups on the fly (which you can not do on the PRO-95) that way or input talkgroups and listen that way in ID SCAN mode (equal to closed mode on the PRO-95).

And the 94A does allow listening to both convent and trunked groups at the same time. It was the 94 that didn't allow that. I reguarly listen to both a 800mhz trunked group (Palmetto 800) and a VHF/UHF bank.

Anyhow, I prefer the 95 over the 94 anyday. I use the 94 to scan trunked systems just to find if any new talksgroups have become active.

Cheers,

There's some confusion regarding the PRO-94 versions...

The original was simply the PRO-94.
The PRO-94A scans trunked and conventional at the same time.
Looking at the RadioShack website, the new PC/IF model doesn't have a letter designation, yet. If it did, I would guess it to be PRO-94B...if they follow previous naming schemes for this scanner...

It is Designated Pro-94B.

Catalog No. 20-524B as it reads on the back of mine.

And I just tallked to RS on the phone, the PC/IF port has no functions.

NOTICE: The NEW PRO-94 has an PC?IF port and thus ends the hard to program bit..
Thus, it doesn't end the discussion, the 94 cannot be programmed via computer even though they built the B version with the port. Read through this feed. http://www.radioreference.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=13520&highlight=

And as for ease of programming compared to the 95, remember, once you've programmed freqs and id's you're done with the 94. The 92, 93, 95 and 96 still have the tags for both freqs/bank and id's to program, why wouldn't the 94 be "easier" to manually program.
