Hi everyone, Dave here. I don't know or quite understand what happened to my Pro96. It was working fine, and still does but some sequence of buttons must have gotten pushed because on the 3rd line down on my display, it used to display the "Palmetto 800" which is the trunking system used here in Charleston South Carolina. When I power it up, and it stops on any voice channel, it displays the following text.
" T IDbk 01234". I can make the display go back to the "way it was" by pushing "function and trunk" in that order then the 3rd line goes back to Palmetto 800. I turn it off and it goes back to the "T IDbk 01234"
and I have tp press function then trunk to get it back to my former normal. Any suggestions on how to get it to go back to where it was working right? I have a PRO 2096 and I don't dare trying this key sequence on it for fear of messing it up too. It is not really messed up just not the way it was and the way I have come accustomed to seeing it displayed. Thanks for any input....Dave

The TOP pic is the way it used to be and the BOTTOM pic is the way it is before I hit Function then trunk to make it right again....I know it is confusing but that is the only way to explain it...

if ya use win96 or programming software make sure you have Show txt tags box checked. or simply hit Text key, on the keypad when scanning that system.

When it stops again - hit FUNC and TRUNK and it will toggle back. This is for locking/unlocking talkgroup sub-banks 0,1,2,3,4.

I understand how to toggle it back and forth. I hit the FUNC and TRUNK to get it to toggle back the way I want it, but when I turn it off either for a short time or over night, and turn it back on, it shows the undesirable or bottom picture on the display and I have to hit FUNC and TRUNK to toggle it back the way I want it. It never was like that and somehow got toggled to the wrong way and defaults back to that when you turn it off.....Any suggestions on a key sequence to make it right again and stay that way? Thanks for the inputs.....Oh by the way, I downloaded the Win 96 software, purchased the cable and software to install to get the cable to work....well the software to make the cable work would NOT install, therefore I never got to use the Win 96 software. As far as I am concerned, I learned by typing everything in manually and just prefer to do it that way. I have a 2096 and this 96. I have them cloned and when I update or capture and identify talkgroups on one, I transfer it to the other one, but since this problem came up, I haven't done anything like that...Thanks for the help and further suggestions. Dave

I searched through what I have and only see the option on the first sceen of WIN96 to set "ID sub bank On/Off Mode." WIN96 does a lot of things that there aren't manual radio keystrokes for. Sorry.

Does anyone have any idea what is happening when I hit the Func and Trunk keys? What it is toggleing to and from? It used to stay saying Palmetto 800 and just yesterday I noticed the other stuff and finally figured out a way to change it back but everytime I turn it on or off, it goes back to the way I don't like....Hopefully I am not stuck with it this way..Dave

Un check and reload win 96? I could never get the cd to load the software to enable the cable to interface between the scanner and the computer, so I sent it back and got my money back for it, so I have no cable to connnect it to. I just wanted to know what the Func and Trunk keys do when they are pressed, and how to change the display to the way it was and not have it switch back everytime you repower the scanner...Dave

do not plug in the cable untill you run The CD & reboot, then goto system thing & see what comport it was assigned, then match that with win96/ that means un check CC only option in win96

I sent it back a while back. It was working fine up till 3 days ago when somehting accidentally got pushed and it defaults to the screen I don't like and I hit the Cont and trunk keys to get it back. I just want to find out how to get it back the way it was....if it got change to the wrong display it should be able to be changed back to the way it was by a simple key press or 2....ya think?

The only way I can duplicate your problem is with Win96 checked as "ID sub bank On/Off Mode". When checked, you get the " T IDbk 01234" which you can change it to normal using FUNC + TRUNK, however, when scanner is set to off then back on, it returns to " T IDbk 01234". If I uncheck the software and reload back to scanner it will allow FUNC + TRUNK to toggle back and fourth and the scanner will turn on next time based on last setting used when turned off.

How you got yours that way without software is beyond me.

Well that is making progress anyway......Sounds like I must have inadvertantly pressed a combination of buttons while I was watching something else and don't know exactly what I hit. But now it looks like I am hosed for sure till I figure out what I did.....Thanks for all your help and suggestions and if I figure it out, I will definitely post the cure.....and if anyone comes up with the right key sequence suggestions are welcome...Thanks again for your research....Dave

The best guess I have is noise flipping something during a clone from the 2096. Can you cure it by cloning again? Does the 2096 behave the same way?

Was the 2096 in this TGID mode when you last cloned?

The last time I clonded them was several weeks ago and it had been working fine up till saturday. I am sure I must have pressed some key combination that did it either while I was on the phone or setting on the park bench watching other things walk by and not paying as much attention as I should have.

I have put my Pro-96 into this mode twice now. I still haven't narrowed down the keystrokes!!!!!!!!! I haven't found a way out other than restoring from the V scanner. I will peck at this later. Arrrrrrgh!

Happy Happy Joy Joy.

While scanning, while stopped on a trunk conversation.....

FUNC TRUNK will toggle temp until power reset.

FUNC TRUNK DN-ARROW will set T IDbk mode as default on power reset.

FUNC TRUNK UP-ARROW will set to Normal mode

So that is encouraging that there is hope to restore it back to the way it was......YEAH for you if you help me get it figured out. It is just a pain to switch it back everytime I turn it on. If this was the way I "grew up" with it, it would be no big deal I suppose, but I do like having the "Palmetto 800" on the 3rd line...I guess just cause that is the system they use but that is what I got used to and I don't like what it is showing me now...Thanks for the encouragement....Dave

Well there was hope...As I scrambled out to the car in hopes if my problem being solved I was glad the mystery might be finally solved...Well I got the 96 in the house, looked at the instructions and when I push the func and trunk I get the high toned beep, then when you push either the up or down arrow....( I tried both) you get the lower pitched beep, like the sound as if to tell me....."Not that key..try again"...
It sounds like the "fault beep" and it didn't work for me. I can change it back and forth at will, but it defaults to the "bad one" when you turn power on again. Could I try taking the battery out of it and see if that makes a difference? I see there is still hope...Thanks for your help, Dave

Was a trunked conversation in progress when you did this? I see this as a clean kill - at least for my scanner.

Boot F1.0
CPU F1.3
DSP APP U1.4
DSP VOC F1.0

I am switching the default power on mode at will.

The scanner must be in SCAN mode showing the "T IDbk 01234" and stopped in the middle of a trunked conversation. Hit FUNC then TRUNK then DN-ARROW. You should hear 3 normal beeps.

If I do it a second time - I hear 2 normal beeps and 1 lo beep - meaning the change was already made.

Also, try both sequences (one at a time) once with UP-ARROW - cycle power and test. Then try the DN-ARROW - cycle power and test. I am now seeing the arrows change directions. I am not sure if there is some other dependancy going on here. Certainly 1 of the sequences will toggle you back to where you want to be and survive a power cycle.
