Newbee I am......I've been programing my pro-96 radio using win96, and when I upload the info to the radio I notice that when the radio is seaching it stops on a channel but without an audible tone. ?? When I press the manual select button I get a digital tone (several of them)..... I lock them out but then I don't seem to hear anything. what should I do? I live in the Imperial Valley city of Holtville,. with several cities within scanning distance (El Centro, Brawley, Calexico, Imperial). Do all the cities use the same radio system? I know that Holtville and Imperial have their own Police Dept. but there freq is not listed in the win96 radio refrence web imports. How would I program my scanner to listen in? Help thanks

When you pressed the manual button you scanner stopped on the control channel that is what the digital noise is. If you wanted to stop on a transmision to monitor press pause button.

Try this file and see if it will work. You need those channels in red and blue only they are the control channels

So I don't need them black channels then, so I should load all the red and blue channels in one bank? How does the talk group work. I know the fire dept. still use conventional channels, so could I load them in the same bank? I starting to spend more time on this radio to get the hang of it, I was getting a little upset and the radio was put away for a while. If you have any more tips I sure would appreciate it. Thanks for your help

They are programmed in Win96 on the lower right side.

Yes you can, the scanner will sample for activity on the duty control channel and when idle, sample the fire freqs.

Additional tips: In Win96, use the Alpha tags beside the freqs to help ID the conventional fire channel when it is used, I tag the cc's and alt cc's also to help Id their use. Also use Alpha tags beside the trunked talkgroups to help ID who is talking. These tags will appear on line 4 for trunk ID's and line 3 for the frequencies. If the conventional freqs have CTCSS or DCS programmed, that data will appear on line 4 during the conventional transmission.

Added during Edit: The un-programmed black frequencies will appear on line 3 during a trunk transmission when assigned duty as the voice channel (VC) by the Control Channel (CC) to transmit the talkgroup on line 4.
