Yesterday I sat down with my Pro 97 in my back pocket. Next thing I looked the antenna jack came out of the scanner (for the record, I'm using the large RS rubber duck). I tried putting it back in but in the process, the red wire came off. Since then I have had poor reception on most channels, including NOAA weather radio which is coming in fuzzy. In an attempt to repair the unit, I managed to damage it further and two silver nuts came out. I didn't put them back in because I couldn't figure out exactly where they went. Right now, I'm operating my 97 with the bad antenna jack and while in some cases I can get what I want to listen to, I'm having trouble with trunk system control channels. Also depending on where I have the unit, I may or may not be able to pick up the stuff I am able to pick up with my 106 or 2055. Any idea on how and if this problem can be fixed? I really don't want to take it to The Shack because it is no longer under warranty, it's about 2 years old, and I'll run up a large bill. This is my main scanner and it has the battle scars to show. The belt clip housing is broke (thus I can't use the belt clip hence why it was in my pocket), the buttons on the keypad are worn out, and it has several dings and dents. I would like to be able to repair this if possible so I don't have to spend money on a new one. Thanks for all help in advance.

I have now fixed 4 with the antenna jacks broken and only one jack had to be replace as the others I just re-soldered the wire and the tab back. Hardest part was getting the lock washer and nut back on it and get it tightened. I say try and fix it...

If your keypad and belt clip were still good I would offer to buy it from you.

Tried to solder the wire back in but no luck. I think in the process I may have melted a portion of one of the circuit boards (not the main one). Scanner still works but is in need of help. If anyone wants to help me please PM or email me. I'm going to look for a replacement scanner since this one is rather worn out. If I can get this fixed, I won't need a replacement.

Might have damaged the case in the process. RS Repair might be the best option unless you are hande with detail work. If you need to replace the antenna jack, it is in stock at RSU parts

I know you don't want to hear this but go for a new scanner. The one you have sounds a bit worn out and ready for the "parts pile"..don't trash it. If you get another pro97 you'll have parts.

Just a word of advice here. I know this is a little late but DO NOT put your new one in your back pocket anymore!!! They are not built like a commercial mil-spec radio is and will not take the abuse. I would suggest maybe investing in a good case to wear it in?

Won a used Pro 97 on eBay. Got it yesterday and all is well again. I will be selling my old one as a fixer upper or parts source. It still works great other than the antenna jack.
