Last weekend I was running Pro96com without issue until I shut it down for a while, booted it back up and when I press the "read data from radio" button, I get an error message, "Serial Port Open Error, Error Code 3 (Path not found).

I still have it setup for Pro-106.

When I first click on "Edit" at the top of thescreen, it tells me "Access violation at address 00691D08 in module Pro96Com.exe'. Read of address 65747379." I press OK. It then goes into configuration settings. I see nothing that needs changing. This is a laptop running WinXP Pro SP3.

My interface cable is the Radio Shack cable made for the Pro-106/197. I can still use the cable to upload updates using WIN500 without issues. The "pilot light" (for lack of a better name) will light up when transferring data when using WIN500 but is NOT lighting up when using Pro96Com if that means anything.

Any ideas?

Does the COM port the program is using match the Com port under the Device manager for the cable?

There is an option you can add to the Pro96Com.ini file (default location is MyDocuments\Pro96Com) to not do COM port search and allow you to select any port.

Add this to the [Communications] section of the file:

[Communications]
ShowAllPorts=Yes
HighPort=255

This is a common occurrence for me and it's not a big issue make sure you saved all of your talkgroups and radio ids then restart the computer you should be back up and running fine sometimes the software gets confused and see a port in use where it is not a quick reboot should have you back on track.
