Problem With Our Repeater

So over the past few weeks we've had problems with our repeater. It comes and goes and has been pretty hard to nail down. We'll have some sort of digital noise that opens the repeater, squawks it's noise, and clears. Sometimes you'll only hear it once, sometimes it'll happen every 15 seconds, then other times nothing at all. Most of the repeaters in the area have a 107.2 tone, however our machine has a 79.7 tone, so I don't think it's intermod reflections off of another machine. The frequency is 147.255, positive offset, with a 79.7 tone. We've tried tracking it down with beams but have been unsuccessful due to it's sporadic nature. Here's a recording.

It sounds like 1200 baud packet data to me, but then I don't know. Anyone who can shine a light or maybe even decode it will get a shiny gold star sticker courtesy of the Olive Branch Amateur Radio Club. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

That sounds a lot like the data that IDs a radio that is used on commercial and public service radios.

May be intentional or could be someone that left a TNC on and switched frequency to your repeater. I have had this happen before.

Suggestions, change your PL tone and see if the issue tracks.

Sounds like GE-STAR ANI encoding. Maybe someone playing around with a radio programmed with your repeater freq and the GE-STAR ID.

Sounds to me as if someone's APRS setup is TXing on inappropriate channels. I hear this more often than necessary, and it always seems to be coming from one of the high-end APRS/GPS capable dual bands that's suffering from operator malfunction and/or complete operator oblivion.

Thanks for all the ideas. I've monitored the aprs freq, what is it? 144.39 if memory serves correct, but to no avail. They sound similar but the aprs is longer. To me it has the potential to be a lojack system, but I don't know. Someone came with the idea it could be a fleet id of some sort. I don't know. It's just so sporadic. We all switch immediately over to the input frequency if we hear it and monitor for a few minutes, then switch back to the repeater and report our location and whether or not we could hear it from our current location. Not rocket science, but giving us a general idea of where it could be coming from.

Oh yeah bud, it was tearing up the reapeater Sunday night when I was working on that car. I was spitballing ideas about that car with n5uov, k5rcf, and kd5ckp and it was in there every few seconds, doubling on top of everyone, squelching like crazy.

The link is bad to the file so I can't listen. Could it be D-Star splatter from 147.015 in St. Louis when conditions are right? I don't see any TRBO 2 meter machines in the area but see 1 D-Star.

Having heard the transmission I can say that it is not D-Star.
