• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I am looking for a programming cable for the XTL5000 that plugs into the microphone port. Its a square plug not for 05 heads. I already have a cable for the xtl2500 that you plug in and rotate

is it absolutely necessary that it goes through the mic port? I had found one on ebay a while back that went to the back accessory port, its been good for me.

If its the W Head like used on the old Spectras you are better off programming it through the rear. Moto did make a mic jack serial cable for the radio, but they are rare and insane expensive when they do come up. No one ever made an aftermarket for a couple of reasons. There is a circuit that would have to be duplicated and popularity. We had a couple of the cables on the ancient fleet of W4's we maintained for programming in-car.

I never have seen a USB W mic jack cable.

EDIT: The serial mic jack cable is HKN6155

Thank you for the part number. The front plug in is a little high for right now. I am just learning to program these radios for Tow Trucks to monitor Police and EMS

Houston area has a lot of TDMA so you may want to look into something that will do TDMA.

Yeah, there is that too. Not to mention HORRIBLE NAS programs installed in the Wreckers (edit for @KevinC) already, some without the N in NAS lol.

It means someone did not have a clue what they were doing and programmed radios that ended up affiliating and causing the talkgroups to revert back to Phase 1 FDMA. I LOVED inhibiting these radios as a system manager.

As for your second question, everyone will say they make the best, but there are TONS that create just horrible programs that have absolutely no business being anywhere near a programming cable and a copy of CPS.
