programming P25 with BCD996XT

I am having trouble manually programming a P25 system into my scanner. This is the system: Windsor Public Safety Trunking System, Windsor, Ontario - Scanner Frequencies

I put it as P25 and not Motorola because its exclusive, but im trying to figure out if its explicit or implicit. There is no signal bar displaying with the system is searching. I have control channels inputed

Windsor PD are encrypted...nothing else...im trying to get city services whom are digital

rr HAS THE SYSTEM AS MOTO ii\P25, AND THE SITE AS MOTO P25 \P25 Standard. Siince you are a Premium Subscriber, why not hook up cables and avoid the manual programming? Here is ther file for Windsor.

Programmed it with free scan and its still not working...its displaying "nfm" rather than a control channel

What you are describing sounds like it might not be in range. If you just hold it on the control (red) channel, or any of the 3 alternates, do you hear a control channel?

P25 does use nfm.

I havent tried listening yet if I hold. I did hold it on a TG and all it said was "finding control channels"

Are you using the stock antenna or one designed to receive 800mz?
It can make a big difference.

Not sure of the terrain, but it looks like you have potentially 30+ miles to the transmitter sites of this system. For an 800mz system, that's fairly close to the edge with a back of set antenna.

You would do better with an 800mz antenna that is tuned to what you are trying to receive. Even if it is only a back of set, like a Radio Shack 800mz.
Your outdoor antenna at that range tuned for VHF is going to have a hard time pulling in that system.

As Mark has said, I don't think you will be able to pick up the Windsor public safety system in Harrow wioth a tuned antenna in the VHF range,even if u went with a diamond discone I personally don't think you will get it, harrow just a bit out of range.. With my mobile , while in Colchester it was having problems locking onto the control channel. A yagi may do better, but even that you are on the verge, I have a 996xt myself, and with P25 simulcast systems, it can struggle if your not in the immediate area locking onto the CC, due to interference, congestion etc., in my own humble experience. The coax you're using is a factor. Unless it is LMR-400; or similar low loss, the higher the frequencies the greater the loss. And the coax length is a factor as well...keep it as short as possible. Rant almost complete: adapters, sma to SO239 etc., cause loss as well. Best of luck.
