Programming the BD796D

I have noticed looking at program files that I have down loaded form the internet, for the BD796D that the talk group ID's are 6 digits long and have zeros as the first numbers even through some are listed only as 3 digits and have no zeros in them. Is there a reason for this and is it necessary?

When you read back a bank on the BC796D it will pad the TG to 6 digits, by putting in leading 0's.
