Programming the Pro 97

I work for the fire dept and I received this as a gift, which was a nice jester from my father, but I am getting a new radio with all of the talk groups for the county programmed in.

But in the mean time I would like to know how to program this thing so I can listen to my depts radio channels when I am at home.

I don't have a clue on how to do this, and I have read the manual and can not figure out how to program this thing.

These are the channels I would like to have programmed into my radio

Really nice scanner. I've had mine for almost 3 years. The best way to program the radio is with Win97. You need to get a USB cable from radio shack (stock # 20-047). The software can be downloaded from
http://www.starrsoft.com
But, until you get the software and cable, yes the link to programming makes it easier to understand. The most important things are: Pick which bank you want to program the 4 control channels in. Yes, you just need to put in the four channels highlighted in RED. The bank needs to be set in MOTorola mode. The frequencies need to be in MOTorola mode. Then after you get the frequencies programmed, you can put in the TGID's----400, 1008, etc.. To program the scanlist(while in the same bank), press MAN, then PRG, then T(runk). Enter the TGID's in the scanlist area. You can alphatag them to make it easier to know who is transmitting. Though, being in the FD, that shouldn't be to hard
Follow the steps with the manual open to make sure that you are doing it in the correct order. Have fun with the new radio!

The cheat sheet looks familiar.

Your system is Motorola Standard which is default in the scanner so in programming freqs ignore step 4a. And as Larry stated, only the red controls should be programmed as this scanner will decode the voice freqs from the tower controller and present them on line 2 during coms and if you alpha tag them (BEAUFORT would be fine), the tag will appear on line 3 during coms.

BTW, don't try to enter the small c with the freq as it is only used to flag the frequency for using Control Channel Only option while importing with Web Import feature in software. Larry mentioned Win97 software which does this very well. You will need a subscription with RR to use Web Import.

Ignore HEX. and in step 3, enter 2, 3, 4 or 5 digit (DEC) for Mot. The scanner will enter preceding 0's to make all as 5 digits.
