I've looked for my answer but haven't found it. Apologies if I missed it somewhere.

When programming the SRRCS do I need to include both the city and the county sites? I'm trying to program my Pro96 that I use when not in my normal car and so I guess the question is do I put both sites in one bank and then make my talkgroup lists, or separate out county and city in two banks and do it that way? What is my best option here? Thanks.

what scanner are you using? I would say just enter the county site since the city sites don't have as much coverage as county does (unless you will be mostly in the city.

if you have a scanner that let's you enter multiple sites under one system (like the 996xt) I would enter both.

Typically on my scanners I program 2 banks. One for each system. Bank 1 - Site 1 (City) Bank 2 - Site 2 (County)

When I'm in the city, I turn on Bank 1, when I'm in the County, I turn on Bank 2. I program the banks basically the same with some differences.

It works great for me. Although if I had a 996XT I'd use the multi-site feature.

If you're using a bank-oriented scanner, I STRONGLY suggest programming each system (city & county) into separate banks. That gives you control to monitor either one, both or none.

If all you want to monitor is the dispatch channels, it really won't matter which system you are monitoring. However, if you want to hear a specific city TG like Fire B7 for example, then you'll need to monitor the associated site. You should also note that your LOCATION matters because you may or may not have good reception from either site. I have great reception from 2 county sites here, and lesser quality from the closest city site.

With a bank-oriented scanner, you'll need to program the TGs in EACH bank, typically limited to 150. But you can cherry pick what is typically broadcast from each site (for example, little need to program fire B10 on a county site). If you're using an object oriented scanner, program each site as a separate system with their own TGs and frequencies much the same way.

I now am using a 996T and programmed it using FreeScan. It worked great on Friday and again on Monday afternoon, but today nothing. I was not picking up anything on the Sac system. I verified that I had all the frequencies in, that the talkgroups were correct (did not chance anything since it worked before). Does anyone have an idea of what could be going on? It scans fine on conventional systems.

I scan both systems constantly on several radios. It sounds to me like you've locked out one (or more) of the control channels. When that channel goes active, your scanner goes quiet.
