Programming With Control Channels?

Hi all. I just got my PSR-500! I have been away from scanning for a long time, so I am not use to all this new digital trunking stuff. My question is how do you program the digital systems. For example I want to program some stuff that is on SAFE-T. Do I need to enter just the control channel freqs. or both the controls channels and all the other frequencies? Thanks!

You only have to enter the primary and alternate control channel frequencies.
Digital or analog, it makes no difference, follow the above.

For the record - you don't enter frequencies into a scan list... you ener frequencies into a TSYS object... then you create TGRP objects that refer to that TSYS object and the TGRP objects are assigned to scanlists....

Now back to our program...

Other than extra work on your part, I think entering the other system freqs *could* cause a slight delay while checking all of the freqs for the control channel...

Most systems carry everything they need in the control channel so the radio will already know which frequency to switch to. However, I *think* there may be some old systems that don't have that data in the control channel where you *could* need all freqs programmed (this is very unlikely).

Bottom line is I do not believe there is a heavy downside to entering all of the system frequencies - other than you having to take the time to do it.

Thanks for the info. I was wondering why for example if the SAFE-T listings for Indiana they show the primary and alternate then all the other frequencies. I didn't know if you had to enter all of the or just the control channels.

Early TRS scanners like the BC-235 or 245, etc. required you to enter all of the frequencies but most (possibly all) these days can figure tings out for you and all you need to do is enter the CC primary and alternate frequencies.

For some systems, the CC frequencies may not all be known...for example, one of the 380Mhz systems in my area was experiencing interference sometime in the past year. From what I've seen the tend to run the CC on one of their assigned frequencies and it (almost) never change it. However, when they were troubleshooting, they used ALL of them at one time or another while diagnosing the problem(s). This might be an exception but I'm just pointing our that it can happen....

Safe-T and all Mot systems plus all P25 trunking systems require only Controls/Alts. Any other programed Mot or P25 freqs not active as controls will be ignored by the decoder (wont even be scanned).

Other trunking systems (ED/LTR) will need all LCN freqs.
