On the display of my PSR-500 to the left of the "Strength Meter" there is the letter 'G' which stays on constantly. I can find nothing in the manual that identifies this. Can someone help? Did I depress a key by mistake?\

Thanks and Happy New Year!!

That means that the Attenuate function of the radio is set to Global. If you turn on the attenuator, all frequencies will be attenuated with this option turned on. Note that unless the "A" icon appears next to that, there is no attenuation actually taking place.

You can switch the global attenuation function on and off by pressing the FUNC key, followed by the ATT key. You can turn attenuation on and off by pressing only the ATT key.

Maybe this is old info but, when i press F+ATT and the "G" appears as a prelude to the "ATTEN" then the parameter setting i made in my local MOTO Type11 trunk system of "A" is actually shut off....I must use the "A"ttenuator on my local system because i live close to the CC tower and it overloads the scanner thus the scanner constantly by-passes my local trunk system...If i turn off the F+ATT and the "G" is removed my setting of "A" in the local trunk system returns!!....

With the "G" you get "global", With "G and A" you get "global attenuation", as in all channels. With just the "A" you get a per-channel "attenuation".

I do understand what your saying Dave, because i have owned a PRO96 and 2096 for some years now however, i was suprised to see the "per-channel "A" disappear when all i did was turn on the "G" global only-no attenuation actually turned on as yet??
