Hello, I am new to scanning and just took my PSR-500 out of the box. I am a NOOB so please don't blast me if this is in the wrong place etc. I purchased and downloaded ARC-500 and became a premium subscriber here so I could download my county into the scanner. When loading my county there where boxes 1-20 at the bottom of the page I checked box one and pressed import then I uploaded to scanner. The scanner gave me the completed sign and I assumed it was done. Then I pressed MAN on the keypad and it read top line: T G Signal is all the way up. Second line:01-0040 TGRP P1D Third Line:ID: 02-021 and Fourth Line: CPD=(Clarksville Police Department) DISP 1. The DISP 1 is flashing and underneath all that TSYS. Now my question is what do I do from here? I am not receiving anything. I'm sure it's something stupid i'm doing wrong but in the meantime I will keep reading and see if I can get up to speed. Thanks for all that help.

No help at all huh? I tried reloading my area into the scanner but I am still not getting anything. If someone could send me in the right direction at least that would be great. If not I might have a brand new PSR-500 for sale.

I am trying to set this up for my dad so he can listen to the local police.
State:TN
County:Montgomery
City:Clarksville

I have bought ARC500 and loaded all the frequencies from RR into the scanner. Now what?

You are going to freak when you hear this but Clarksville system is unmonitorable.

From the WIKI : There is no scanner available today that can monitor EDACS ProVoice Digital voice :(

To CPR123CPR

I am having the same exact problem. I have a PSR500 and the ARC500 software. I am also a NOOB. I seem to be able to make radioreference communicate with the scanner thru the ARC500 software. The scanner even shows the various talk groups, but dead silence. I was starting to think the scanner itself was faulty.

So if you find the answer, please let me know, and I'll do the same. I hate to drop another $300 to have Scanner Master program the thing after I just spent $500 for the scanner, but with the support I'm getting, it feels like that's what they want.

Hopefully, you're not having "the exact same problem" as cpr123cpr, since his problem is that the system he's trying to monitor is "unmonitorable" by any scanner.

It would be better if your problem was merely a misconfiguration. However, to tell the difference, we need to know what system you're trying to monitor (a link to a RadioReference.com database page for the system would be extremely helpful).

Don, I am trying to monitor the Michigan Public Safety Communications System (MPSCS). Here is a link: Scanner Frequencies: Michigan Public Safety Communications (MPSCS) Trunking System, Statewide, Multi-State.

I seem to be able to program the scanner manually (I have done conventional objects and limit objects) as long as I do it in scan list 1. If I try to program anything into any other scan list, the scanner just says "Nothing Enabled" when I attempt to scan.

When I use the ARC500 software, both the software and the scanner show an upload in progress. When the upload is finished, I can go to "manual" and see the various talk groups with their ID numbers in the scan lists. However, when I push the "Scan" button, there is dead silence.

Thanks for any help anyone can provide.

Just a stupid question but when using the ARC500 software are you checking the sites near you to enable the control channels?

Make sure the system type in the TSYS object is P25 Auto, and that the control channel frequencies from the sites near you are in the frequency list.

Is that what scanner master charges to program a scanner!?!? I think I might be in the wrong business.

ps to jimbod5595: it took me 2 1/2 years before I figured out how to make my first Pro95 do any trunk tracking. Until then it was an expensive paperweight that did nothing I paid for it to do. This was also before I had discovered programming software and this wonderful place called RadioReference. Don't get discouraged(like I was).

To hoser147: Thank you

To davidbond21: Is that chemical bond by any chance? Anyway, thanks for the encouragement.

To carpetman and Mike: You're just a little over my head. But I think I'm getting close.
How can I check the sites near me to make sure the control channels are enabled? Is that done in the ARC500 software?

Where, in the ARC500, do I make sure the system type in the TSYS object is P25 Auto??

Thanks!!

If you click on the tab that says trunk it will take you to radio reference page you must also subscibe to this service. there are three tabs one one for sites and one for talkgroups check the ones you want to down load. hit import it will load in what ever bank you chose.

If the talkgroups are entered make sure they are assigned to the right system. If unassigned or assigned wrong you won't hear anything even if the information is in the scanner. Hope this might help.

Yes, it is a line-bond drawing. Its name is in my signature line. And you picked a good scanner for being a newbie; you probably won't have to buy another one until something better comes out or you decide you need more than one scanner to listen to everything.

Are you selecting SITE 101 when downloading from Radioreference, I show Grand Ledge on the edge of 2 counties Eaton and Clinton. The database shows site 101 in Eaton Co. and no sites in Clinton Co.
You would be better off asking your question in the Michigan Forum.

In the ARC500 software, I have been selecting "All Sites".

That might be part of the issue. There are only 32 frequency slots available in the Trunked System object, and there are over 50 unique control channels on the MPSCS statewide. You might want to pick just the tower sites that are close to you and try that.

Mike, Thanks, I'll try that.

Meanwhile, is there any way to save your ARC500 settings? When I try, it wants to save to "My Documents" and then, when I try to open it, Windows does not know what program created it.
