What's next? I downloaded & unzipped the update and got 3 different things. Which do I use & how do I get it to my PSR 500? I did one one upgrade a long time ago but forgot how to do it.

Jay I downloaded it yesterday and tried to update my PSR 500 C scanner and it was a no go.

How do I check which version I have, and what do I do if it crashes my $500 baby?

It would be VERY helpful for you to read that instruction file over again.

to answer your first question:

From that PDF instruction file that you downloaded, Quote:

"As noted above, there are two different versions of CPU firmware for the
PSR-500/PSR-600 scanning receivers. To determine which version you should
use, turn your radio off, then turn it back on while holding down the PGM key.
Refer to the “uP Boot Ver:” line at the top of the display to determine the Boot​

Version used in your radio." Unquote

to answer your second question, also from the PDF instruction file that you have: Quote:

"Upgrading your scanner is a quick, simple and safe process. There is no way you can
render your scanner inoperable by performing the upgrade." Unquote.

I got it done and went from 1.8 to 2.1.

When I downloaded the file a few hours ago, the file name stated it was for both versions; perhaps they've corrected it now; who knows... These releases this time seems a little hap-hazard...

Forgive me, I am brain dead. I forgot how to check what version Firmware I have in my PSR-500 and 600. I know how to check my uniden. Could you please send me private directions? I am originally from Michigan (Oak Park to be exact) many, many years ago. Thanks.

The 3 key must be pressed while the Welcome/Owner screen is being displayed.
3 displays CPU and DSP versions.

i baught my psr 500, from the us so do i need the c firmware , didnt think there was a difference in the radios in general , when i press the pgm button mine has 1.4 0n top then under it 1.9

ok so i downloaded the firmware did step 1 , proceded to step 2 test, for version then the scanner froze up and nothing friggin works period, ive talked to a gree tecky, i took out the batteries now to wait for 30 minutes to see it it goes back to factory new, the message i got said it did not contain a cpu application code


30 minutes has passed turned scanner back on after inserting batteries, opened the boot f14 utility amazingly it downloaded and rebooted the pc,when i first started this it said on my screen version 1.4 and under that 1.9, now it has the 1.4 and under that 2.1, gre teck has no idea why it failed to update earlierand froze the scanner nothing worked not doing that ever again
