I ran into such an error 3-01 xxxxx today and fixed it this way:

In the "GRECOM EZ Scan Digital" software download the most recent frequency library updates and update your existing scan lists with them.

To be sure your scanner will run on the desired settings and scan lists, do this before the below described procedure: check every settings screen in your "GRECOM EZ Scan Digital" software and make the desired adjustments. If not sure what to do, just press the "Restore Factory Defaults" button and afterwards select either Band Plan "USA" or "Canada".

Handling the defective SD Card:

The GRECOM scanner does not perform well as a card reader or writer. An external (or computer internal) card reader is needed to perform repair work on a defective SD Card.

1. Use an external card reader device, place the offending SD Card in it and use the "SD Formatter" software (download from the Internet) and reformat (full, erase, size adjustment: on) the SD card.

2. Keep the SD Card in the external card reader and use "GRECOM EZ Scan Digital" to access the SD Card in the card reader - not in the scanner. Then select: Scanner/SD Card -> Prepare Scanner/SD Card for use. In the software menu highlight the SD card (which should be in the card reader) and check the following boxes: Quick Format, Copy current configuration data to SD Card after format, Copy Library files to SD Card after format. Then click "Format" button, press the "Enter" key on the computer keyboard when prompted in the black command window and allow the process to finish. Then click the "Close" button.

3. Do the "Safely Remove Hardware" thing, depending on the OS version somewhere in the system tray. Then remove the SD Card or disconnect the card reader with the SD Card.

4. Remove the scanner batteries, insert the SD Card into the scanner, replace the batteries.

Your scanner should now work again and run on the settings and latest frequency library that you have in your "GRECOM EZ Scan Digital" software on your computer.

My desktop has a Status LED that blinks when the computer is reading or writing from my SD card. I have noticed the LED flashing as much as 45 seconds after the program reports that everything has been copied successfully. As a rule of thumb I now wait at least 60 seconds before attempting any removal of the card from my machine and no longer see any issues.. I have the 1080 but assume the same would be happening with the 800's.

Using the "safely remove hardware " feature should alleviate these concerns.

Thanks for the tip

I was having the same issue when upgrading to a bigger SD card. I had not used the "erase" option in the SDFormatter software. Error cleared after following the directions.

Not sure about the exact error message. But based on this thread it looks like this happened during writing data from the GRECOM EZ-Scan Digital desktop software to the scanner.

Recently the 2GB plain SD card that came with my GRE PSR-800 gave me timeouts and corrupted files. So I purchased a 16GB cell phone SD card and it works absolutely perfectly in my scanner. Data transfer between my computer and the new SD card in the scanner is much faster and no more hangs or timeouts. The card can be quick formatted while in the scanner via the GRECOM EZ-Scan Digital desktop software.

I usually just rearrange the batteries and it goes away. Not sure what it means, exactly...

Good point!
Yes. I have had that happen as well.

Before you reformat the card, turn the scanner OFF
and unplug the USB cable. Pull out all the batteries
and let everything sit for a few minutes.

Put the batteries back in and it will most likely work.

If not you can reformat the micro SD card.

Config_.bin error. You need to reformat and reprogram your SD card.
