I have a strange occurrence with a PSR-800 that maybe the experts can help with.
I installed a outdoor 9 element yagi on a rotor to help with P25 simulcast multipath
distortion. The radio works great for about one minute. After that it only receives calls
that are coming from the nearest site. Does not matter where the antenna is pointed.
If I switch back to the rubber duck it works and starts receiving different sites again.
Switch back to the yagi feedline and it works for about a minute, then it brain freezes
on the nearest site again.
The only thing that works is to lockout that site with the software but, I will miss a lot
of local stuff doing that.
I have tried checking att on that close site with the software and also tried ramping up
the data decode numbers for just that one site to 95-99 to no avail.
De-sense?, AGC? Don't really know..............Jim

If I'm reading the manual right, that's the way it is supposed to work. It samples all the CC's that are programed into it then picks the one that gives the best decoding and stays on it. If you are mobile then it will find another CC when the one it is monitoring noises up. That's the only thing that don't like about the 800 (well that and battery life).

Fortunately, GA
You are overloading the receiver with the gain antenna. Remember, GRE radios are peaked for 800MHz trunking. I use the duck that came with mine for my local P-25 system. The GRE/RS 800MHz antenna for those not so near, and my modified RS magmount antenna for VHF/UHF conventional and P-25 trunking in those ranges.

Start with the global attenuation setting . The yagi is doing what it is designed for, as is the radio

The simulcast system I monitor works great when I am in the county....but at home I can't monitor it without a directional antenna pointed directly at the nearest tower........which electrically I can "see" from my house/tower. BUT the ducky or even an omni antenna will not allow me to monitor the tower from my house

If I was 5 miles closer, I wouldnt' need the yagi and then it WOULD overload it
