PSR500 Question

I purchased a used PSR500 and have been programming it with the PSRedit500 software. It works fine for a few days or so and then the "T" quits flashing on and off while scanning and I quit receiving any P25 traffic. Any ideas to what is going on and how to fix this? Thanks in advance.

Best case might be that you don't have all system/site frequencies programmed and the system is switching control onto one of those frequencies.

Worst case - your used radio has a failing component.

When it stop tracking that specific system, does it continue to track others?

Edit: what system are we talking about?

Assuming it's the Mo state site (http://www.radioresourcemag.com/onlyonline.cfm?OnlyOnlineID=466), the Salem site documented on RR only lists the primary control channel frequency with a note that an alternate still needs to be identified. My guess is the system is switching to this undocumented alternate frequency.

Thanks for the help. I import the Freq's from RR into the PSRedit500 software, should I uncheck the box for Salem and leave the Primary ? Troop I and Dent Co. Sheriff use The P25. But I am still able to get some traffic from Dent Co., nothing from Troop I HWY Patrol.

I looking at the Database Troop I is associated with Phelps County (Rolla) and has a 25 mile radius. Do you have Phelps County Control and Alt channels programmed?

Yes, I have everything associated with Troop I or Area I programmed in.

How many and which site(s) do you have programmed? I recommend only programming the site or sites that close to your listening area and in range.

Also keep in mind that at least one radio/user must be active on the talkgroup and on the site you are monitoring before you'll hear anything.

Backing up to the original problem - have you resolved the proble where the radio appeared to lose tracking of the site (the "T" stops flashing/appearing)?

Thanks a lot for helping me out everyone, I reprogrammed everything and so far so good. It takes a week or so before the "T" quits flashing usually, we shall see.

That sure sounds like a missing alternate CC.

Exactly what I was about to say. You might want to download a copy of Pro96Com and find the missing frequecy/control channel!

When the T is ON .. it is monitoring the control channel and disappears when you receive a transmission.

What you are seeing is normal ..

From the manual: T = "The scanner is currently receiving trunking control channel data"
