To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Tytera PTT delay on TYT MD-UV380

Hello all,

Purchased a TYT MD-UV380 a while ago and finally got around to programming it.
I put in some simple analog channels mostly CSQ just to test.

One thing I've discovered is that there's a delay between pushing the PTT button and the radio actually keying up. I tested on the same analog VHF freq with a Motorola CP100d next to me with identical channel programming. The Moto keys up instantaneously, whereas the TYT seems to have a 500ms or so delay.

I did some reading on this forum and while that seems the norm for digital channels, I'm surprised to see it on analog. Has anyone experienced/fixed?

I reduced the preamble time and almost any other timer in the CPS that I could find, to no effect.

You also need to wait for the squelch to open on the receiving radio, so pressing ptt and waiting a second before taking is the norm. Aside from some tricks like Hytera buffering audio on digital and allowing you to hit ptt and talk immediately ( with the handset hiding the delay)

I don't mind waiting a quick moment but this seems slower than that. My Moto CP100d opens instantaneously on analog.

I should clarify that the time between pressing PTT and the radio keying up is also apparent on my other radio.
e.g. the squelch on that radio doesn't open until after the time has passed - it's not as if the squelch opens and then I can speak.

I ran into this issue. It had to do with the transmit mode I had selected.

I can't remember verbatim what the options where but I had to tell it to transmit on the current channel and the hang channel. That removes the delay.

It appears the delay is when you set it to something else the radio thinks it needs to change channels before transmitting.
