The posted frequency for the Putnam County highway department, 159.65, is listed as "GPS data". That does seem to be correct.

So, what is the highway department using for voice comms? Cell phones? DMR? I haven't found any other listings, and they don't seem to be on the Safe-T system either.

Thanks in advance for any info.

Thanks. I'll poke it into a radio and see what happens. Guess I'll have to blow the dust off my NXDN decoding software.

How is it that you know it's only GPS Data on 159.650?
I don't, I was only going by the listing in the database. It actually does show NXDN and GPS, but has a note that says "rare voice use".

The data bursts I was hearing were short, and of a consistent duration. So I assumed GPS.

You'll likely find they're on NXDN voice, on 159.650. That other freq I listed is on the same license, but not listed in the RRDB. Give that freq a listen on analog, and see if you hear the same digital noise.
