Hi everyone,

I recently scored! a co-worker of mine has a 30' steel mast her hubby installed several years ago (he's now passed on) and she is wanting to get rid of it. basically it's a 30' steel mast made up of 10' sections. One end has a flare that the other screwes into. I looked at it today and it's in really good shape.

I've been trying to research a little on it so I could find some info on the base piece. I'm not sure how large that is or how deep it is in the ground. My apprioach to removing it included a "to be as less intrusinve" on her lawn as I'm getting the mast for free. So I was wondering if there is anyone here that is familiar with these types of masts and could provide a little info on the base.

I'm guessing the base piece is about 4' deep and doesn't appear to be embeded in any concrete. It also appears to be "lightly" welded or tacked to the first 10' piece. If I'm guessing on this correctly (hoping) that if it's not embeded in concrete, I should be able to dissassemble most of the mast and then just wiggle the base with the first 10' section to loosen it and should be able to pull it out of the ground.

If anyone is familiar with these types of masts and could share a little info, I would greatly appriciate it.

Thanks
Steve

There's no definite answer to your question. People put towers/masts in the ground all different ways, so your best bet would be to remove the mast, and dig the base out of the ground. Who knows what you'll find a foot or two under the surface? That "less obtrusive" thingy also means hauling in some dirt to fill the hole. Wiggling that first section of mast is almost a sure way of damaging it. I don't think I'd do much of that, you know?
All things depending, I think you still got a deal.
