Hey Everyone,

What is the difference in the CT and DC selections when trying to get a PL tone or whatever it's called? When I goto lock in a tone on a frequency I am listening to, I can either select DC which gives me a tone of 315 OR I can select CT and I get a tone of 136.5. I can hear them on both. WHAT's THE DIFFERENCE?

Thanks!

CT = CTCSS = Motorola tradename PL
DC = CDCSS = Motorola tradename DPL

The 315 is the correct code. The 136.5 you are seeing is the 134 Hz turn off code at the end of the DPL signal. You will notice it is not active until the end of the transmission.

Just to expand a bit on Joe's answer.
If you actually set the channel to 136.4 CT and in fact it is DC 315 you are not going to hear anything. In search mode (tone or code set to 0) then you will hear everything. Likewise in PGM mode.

To expand on Lou's expansion  , you will hear a brief burst at the end of every transmission if manually sitting on that frequency programmed as Lou said. I'm sure 136.4 was a typo - it's 136.5.

But, of course, the important point is that you want to use D315.
