• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Thank you for this absolute treasure trove of information. In reading this, I finally realized how in over my head I am when it comes to this stuff so thank you for being patient with me as I ask dumb questions about things I have no idea about.

Thanks for taking it as I intended. It's a huge job, and while I can appreciate your desire to do what you can, it's a huge job, even for a professional.

Also thank you for pointing out the Icom Wifi Radios to me. I had no idea they existed, and they will integrate well with the new WiFi system I happen to be in charge of deploying. I also found other manufactures of similar radios online, and was wondering if anyone has any recommendations for brands or models. Not saying the Icoms are not a good solution, just looking for other potential options to evaluate.

Thank you and everyone else who contributed to this tread. It has been eye opening thus far and has uncovered new options to explore.

Yes, there are other manufacturers.

The other options will run the spectrum from cheap office grade products to high end public safety grade stuff.

You don't want the cheap stuff, and you don't want some cobbled together system designed by some random IT guy with an Amazon account.

You also don't want the Latest/Greatest Cisco high budget money-suck system.

The nice thing about Icom is that they have experience in doing LMR radio systems. Their radios are designed to function like a radio and be used by people that are expecting a radio. Their system is scalable for small to very large. Programming should be pretty straightforward.

I've set up some similar systems, and while they'll work, they get really expensive quickly, and will require someone with a lot of IT experience to set everything up right.

Remember, you don't want something Frankenstine'd together that is a one off solution and only understood by one person. A purpose built product that has manufacturer support will be your best value in the long run.
