Quick sma?

I remember in the past I’ve had what I call quick connectors and essentially they were the same as an RCA type of connection.

Is there a sma like this? Where there’s no threading it just fits by friction

Ok so does one make a sma female to so239 pigtail where the threads on the sma are not there so it is a friction fit, or is there a pigtail where the sma will spin freely ? Yea I understand the male version is a nut so it can spin

It's unclear what you're trying to accomplish here. Are you asking about an APX 8000 portable? If so, then the antenna connector on that radio is a standard SMA male which requires a standard SMA female. You cannot mate a QMA female with the SMA male on the radio. If you really need to have a quick disconnect, you'll need to first get an SMA to QMA adapter to screw into the radio, then you can do whatever you want with a QMA pigtail beyond that.

Right, so I need a sma barrel which I have, than I am able to use a qma? Yes protabke is being used in a remote "mobile use”.

Hmm, let's try this again. The standard SMA will not mate up with the quick connect QMA. They are incompatible.

If you want the top of the APX portable to have a quick connect, you'll need to buy an SMA female to some sort of quick connect type adapter. It really doesn't matter what you have on the other end of that barrel sticking up out of the APX...you can go with a QMA male or female, or you can keep it even simpler and just go from SMA to BNC, which are a dime a dozen.

You seem to be hung up on the QMA, however you should probably just get an SMA female to BNC barrel, then use a pigtail to go from BNC to UHF (SO239). Why bother with QMA when the weakest link in the chain as far as frequency range is the crappy UHF connector?

Let me also point out that the QMA has a mating cycles rating of ~100, whereas the BNC is minimum of 500. If you plan on connecting and disconnecting the APX on a daily basis, the BNC will be more durable in the long run, cheaper to replace annually, and easier to find.

Get one each of these, and call it a day.

i bought a second BNC so SMA connector for a uniden 396T
i was in a hurry one day and put it on and cross threaded it.
after taking it off later, it basically stripped the threads on the radio.
after many months of use and having to tighten the connection, it is now just a pole.
in other words i made my own quick connect.
the radio still works fine, i just have to make sure the antenna has not fallen off.
i have deep pockets so usually it just falls in next to the radio.
i would not recommend doing this, but it can be thought of as an option.

i was using this:

and than found a bunch of these jumpers in some stuff I had packed away. This will work for me, I’ll order black coax jumper though soon or plastidip this coax cable because pink is just too flashy with black/black interior.

yes APX8k will NOT be left in vehicle unattended. That’s why I was after some sort of QC but this sma will work for me
