I did this a few minuts ago but did not see it saving, but when I reply to a message it says it is too short. So when I take the quote tags out of the message I am replying to it works, so what is wrong?

Thanks

You can click the quote button at the bottom of the post that you want to quote. It then automatically puts the quoted text with the quote tags into the reply box. By looking at your post count I'm sure you are familiar with how to quote text, but I'm not really understanding your question. Can you possibly clarify?

When you remove the quote tags, then the message you were originally quoting becomes part of your message. That increases the character count of your message, bumping it above the minimum. The minimum count isn't all that high, any reply with significant content (above the "me too" level) should exceed the minimum.

When I reply to a message I get 'message too short', then when I take the quote stuff off the message I am replying too it seems to work ok.

Mark pretty well answered your question, you have to say more than "me too" in your response to a message.

The quote does not count for your message size.

Assuming that what you're saying is relevant, and can really be said in a couple of words, you can do what others have done. Add something like "[added to keep from getting the 'message too short' error]". The message is really telling you that your message should be longer, which it probably should be.

One of the reasons the too short message feature was put in was to eliminate people from putting in a message with "BUMP" just to keep their thread up on top.

Ok?

Thanks, but when I am agreeing with someone I guess I should say something a little longer like;

"I AGREE WITH YOU"

Is this long enough?

So like for yours I would have to to add to yours like this;

When replying do I go inside the or do it outside like now?

Like I said earlier [somewhere on here] even this web site is still new to me & I been on here since the old system.

So [for me] remember to keep it longer then 2 or 3 words.

All right guys, this is fun and all but it has been dragged on long enough.

When you post a message on the forums, it must be at least 10 characters long. That is your comment must be at least 10 characters; text within a quote does not count. And indeed it was put in place to stop such things as "BUMP" or "yep" or "Ouch!". So, if you don't have anything to say, don't bother to say it.

???
What do you mean where did I come up with it?
It is just the way it is, I didn't dream it up, if you don't believe me, fine, I really don't care. And you are indeed being argumentative, even if you don't mean to be.

BTW, could you quit trying to change the way I spell MY name. At my age it tends to set me off. :mad:

See this is EXACTLY what I am talking about. All I asked is where did you come up with that at?? I have never heard before that I must have a MINIMUM of 10 characters for a post. I do understand it but I am simply asking where did it come from and is it in the Rules and Regs??

As for being argumentative, you are entirley mistaken, my post was in no way tring to be argumentative! You are the one that is trying to argue but I am not going to. As for mispelling your name, sorry about that get over it, rather than telling someone-"BTW, could you quit trying to change the way I spell MY name. At my age it tends to set me off. :mad" I made a SIMPLE mistake and you could have asked or told me NICELY that I did make a mistake, but one thing is for sure, it would not SET ME OFF or MAKE ME MAD if someone did mispell my user name!!!! gessh :)

I simply asked a question if you cannot answer the question then perhaps maybe you should not post

I hate people that try to tell me just from something that I type that I am being rude or as you put it "argumentative" Perhaps you need to get to know me better before you make those kind of statements.

We are all here to have fun, too much moderation can hurt things and the way that you moderate leaves a lot to be desired. I respect Lindsay and what he has done here and I simply state what is on my mind, if someone wants to think that I am being "argumentative" then they can send me a PM and let me know, otherwise I am just stating what is on my mind, how you interpert it is up to you.

This is one great big hobby. We are all scanner enthusists. If we have to go around moderating like this and chiming in on little things such as you did a couple post ago then there is a real problem and perhaps that needs to be addressed.

I have not had a problem with anyone on these forums, I hope you are not trying to be Number 1

And on and on....

Eric,

You are argumentative, you are asking a question that has no answer. Normally a question asked is a rhetorical question if you don't expect an answer; but you do expect an answer, where there is no answer. I simply stated you need to type at least 10 characters for the post to be accepted. Where did it come from? What does that even mean? It is just the way it is. Kind of like asking were did the air come from? Why is there oxygen? You think I missed the three question marks. Didn't you notice me repeat them on my post. What do you care if you have to type 10 characters to get the post software to accept your post, based on your typical post, this should not be an issue with you.

How about this:

You didn't simply ask a question, you attacked a simple statement. Take a good look at your post.

Of course you don't really think too much before you post, remember this:

The post that came from can be found here. (At least you spelled my name right in that attack.) Taking that with this:

Moderating..., what moderating? Eric, trust me, if I moderate one of your posts, you will know it, thus far I am just going to suggest you check your troll-like attitude at the door before you start up stuff.

Moderation is when a post is changed or deleted by a moderator; since you accused me of it, I will call you out. Post the little number found in the upper right corner of any post you think I "moderated" in this thread.

Up to today, I just figured you were a garden variety trouble maker, I guess it is time to go and look at your more recent post history and see just what you are actually up to.
