Radio Free Asia and USAGM Sites ?

Hello,

Regarding Radio Free Asia:

Are their transmitters located locally in the Country
they are serving, or it all comes from the U.S. ?

Same general question please, what about the transmitters for all the "United States Agency for Global Media (USAGM)" broadcasts ?

If you look at the EiBi lists, they will show you that Radio Free Asia generally is broadcast from several sites in the Marianas, Taiwan, Kuwait, and I think one might be broadcast from the Philippines and another from Tajikistan.

They aren't located in the country they're serving, because China and North Korea wouldn't allow Radio Free Asia to broadcast from transmitters inside their countries.

That's why RFA broadcasts from nearby, friendly countries or (in the case of the Marianas) US territory.

Here's the EiBi SW list. I keep it on my tablet computer, always open in its browser. Makes it easier to ID a station.:

Scroll down to 9370 khz. You'll see Radio Free Asia listed, and to the right will be the locations of the transmitters -- MRA means the Marianas, and TJK means Tajikistan. Same for 9355 khz. Up and down this listing you'll see other RFA transmissions, and elsewhere on the EiBi site is a listing that tells what the abbreviations for the transmitting countries stand for.

No prob. And one thing to remember, Radio Free Asia isn't always easy to hear, especially their Chinese broadcasts, because China usually covers them up with China's national broadcaster CNR-1 or Firedrake, the Chinese jammer station that plays non-stop Chinese classical and Chinese opera music.
