Radio Shack Pro-164 Firmware

Reporting back to the group and again thank you for all your assistance.
I received the old RS 20-047 cable and had a chance to try the firmware upgrade. All went well! Moved from firmware 1.02 to 1.10 (last firmware). The old RS cable worked without a hitch. The radio is working as it should. Thanks again for the help on this. For whatever reason, the first cable I bought would update frequencies but not update firmware. The old RS cable does both.

Sure, this is it.
After i bought it initially i went back and looked back at the description and it does mention it does not do firmware. I must have missed that - I've had problems with cables that didn't work at all, or driver discrepancies, but never a cable that only worked for certain things.
By the way in doing research I believe the difference between the RS 20-047 and 20-056 is that the 20-047 is an older cable with the orange clear circuit board box and two LEDs vs the 20-056 is an all black molded single LED cable. Apparently they are the same cable - the 20-056 is a newer version that looks more like the connection cables we buy today.

I noticed that about the firmware updates also. I have 2 genuine Radio Shack 20-546 cables. I have never had firmware update problems using those cables. They work for the PRO-96 which is 4 years older than your scanner. I haven't had the opportunity to try them on a PRO-164. I will have to make a note not to use that cable. Glad to hear you got the scanner updated. I have ARC300 software if you need any programming help.
