Went to my local radio shack and there was no discounts or any sign that they were closing.

The only items on clearance or discounted were toys like choppers and a few drones. No other discounts. Kinda shocked after hearing most everyone's experiences.

Its a crap shoot.

I have 3 stores in my area. One is not set to close and has no sales to speak of with a full array of scanners.

One is set to close in the very near future with 40% off everything. No scanners but a good selection of the usual stuff.

The other is set to close in three days with 90% off everything and mostly empty shelves with a few chicken bones here and there.

I am headed to my hometown for the weekend, Going to stop at at least one radioshack on the closing list there. This town could be completely devoid of Radioshacks soon, as all of them are on "the list"

I will report back

REPORT:

This radioshack had a HUGE sign saying three days left.

Parts drawer was 90% off or more, the drawers themselves were $150 each.

Everything else was at least 75% off, I grabbed a VHF/UHF ground plane antenna, and a glass mount antenna for a few bucks each. All told, I bought about $400 retail worth of stuff for $50.

Im gonna go back and see about buying a drawer set on Sunday, their last day.

On my days off I've been making the rounds to the area stores. Got lots of parts 90% off and other stuff 75 off. Got two digital scanner s for $100 each. Don't know what I'll do with them, but couldn't pass up a p25 radio for that price.

The one store said I had the longest receipt they've ever seen. Then I was looking for a power supply for the scanner I bought. I picked it out without having to look at the specs. They asked if I ever worked for radio shack. I said no, they said I should have, but kinda too late now...

If I didn't feel like a dork before - i certainly do now...

I'm Jealous of the scanners, My RS shipped out any merchandise over $100.

Only one in my town was poised to close (their rent is $8000/month). They weren't a store that really kept radio stuff…only one out of the 4 (soon to become 3) kept anything radio related.

I went in last week, bought $70 worth of stuff. Walked out with a parts grab box (tons of fuses were in mine…even a nice gold plated fuse assembly), digital iron, a few LED switches for a light project, a couple of relays, an iron cleaner, solder sucker. I though I did pretty well.

Same here for all three of my local stores. I keep hitting them every few days ... maybe I'll find something. Gonna try again this weekend.

Best Buy would be nice, but that's probably a stretch.

Perhaps Wal*Mart.

:)
Either one would be a better outlet than Radio Shack. Being quite a scanner enthusiast it wasn't until RS was touted as going out of business that I realized its been quite a while since I have been to an RS store for scanner-related stuff.
Glad I did though, as I got two P25 scanners for $400 out of RS' s demise, and a bunch of other stuff at 50%.

It's really odd where I live. One store is about to the bare walls (but not slated to close for 2 weeks), another is fully stocked with the "up to" 50% off, but really mostly 20% markdowns. Then another is at 70% (yep for $159.60 I couldn't help myself and bought another 651) full of cell phone accessories and a ton of cables, with FINAL DAYS on the doors.

With the staggering of store closings, until the final final closures happen next month, I think it's hit and miss. If you have stores in your area, check back in a week - you could be surprised.

I bought a TON of connectors, fuses, and little goodies - for peanuts.
