So much for 'not closing' their stores. Both here in town are gone, devoid of RS parts, Sprint only. They only went down to 40% on some items, and then they simply were gone. Why not a fire sale? did they just move the parts from Ohio to Michigan stores still open? Strange way for the Shack to end, as it would appear that all will be a Sprint storefront at best.

Most RadioShack locations with high performing Sprint stores inside are becoming full Sprint COR (company-owned retail) stores with RadioShack closing entirely in that location. The unsold RadioShack inventory gets shipped to another RadioShack location after their last day open. This is only a small part of stores, however, and as of now it appears most RadioShack stores currently open will be completely closed by June.

Does this include franchise stores as well? The one in Blairstown NJ is a franchise and they seem to think they are staying open for business! :)

Nope, franchise locations are independently owned/operated and do not have any affiliation with Sprint. I need to check that location out!

Essex, Vermont store: I finally stopped in yesterday. Signs said something to the effect of "up to 80% off."

No transceivers or receivers of any kind in stock. No antennas. Some cheap store brand coax and connectors. Lots of components and non-rechargeable batteries are still to be had.

Employee said they are still receiving shipments of things from other stores and does not know if any more radios or antennae will be arriving.

While franchise stores are independently owned and operated, they do rely on RadioShack for much of their inventory and support. As such, I would not think there'll be much of a future with both of those eliminated.

RadioShack has been trying to push the franchise owners out for a while starting with the buy out and you had to agree to new agreements before they would sell to you. Franchise stores were required to carry certain RS products in certain quantities our area had no digital radio stations but the local store had to carry 4 or more digital radios (not scanners) music radios.

It will be hard to call yourself Radio Shack once there is no Radio Shack to send you RS inventory. You can, but what would be the point?

I passed by the Radio Shack on Aramingo Ave in the Port Richmond section of Philadelphia yesterday. Sign on the door said last 7 days and everything up to 90% off. Wasn't able to get a good look inside. This was the store I bought my Pro 668 at in February of 2015 right before the fire sale prices. So far I've yet to stop in any store since I don't really need anything from them.

The store I liked, I think it was up in the Philly area... the guys took the "R" and the "hack" letters down, leaving a sign that said
"adio S"

Bankruptcy Announcement

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

GENERAL WIRELESS OPERATIONS INC. COMMENCES VOLUNTARY CHAPTER 11 PROCEEDING

RadioShack Website and Stores Currently Operating and Serving Customers; Selected Stores Will Close in the Coming Month

Company Looks to Preserve Jobs with Transition Agreement with Sprint Corporation

FORT WORTH, Texas, March 8, 2017- General Wireless Operations Inc. (“RadioShack” or “the Company”), doing business as RadioShack, the neighborhood electronics convenience store, today announced that the Company filed voluntary petitions under Chapter 11 in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware (“the Court”).

RadioShack.com, stores and dealer locations across the country are still currently open for business and serving customers. The Company is closing approximately 200 stores and evaluating options on the remaining 1,300. The Company and its advisors are currently exploring all available strategic alternatives to maximize value for creditors, including the possibility of keeping stores open on an ongoing basis.

“For nearly 100 years, RadioShack has proudly served local communities across the United States, offering consumers unique, high-quality products at a great value,” said Dene Rogers, RadioShack's>President and Chief Executive Officer. “Over the course of the past two years, our talented, dedicated team has worked relentlessly in an effort to revitalize the Company and the RadioShack brand, while providing outstanding service to our customers. We greatly appreciate their hard work and dedication.”

He continued, “Since emerging from bankruptcy two years ago as a privately owned company, our team has made progress in stabilizing operations and achieving profitability in the retail business, while our partner Sprint managed the mobility business. In 2016, we reduced operating expenses by 23%, while at the same time saw gross profit dollars increase 8%. Over the same time, we integrated FedEx pickup / drop-off into 140 RadioShack locations, delivered to customers over 700,000 Hulu login pins and sold more than a million RadioShack private brand headphones and speakers delivering high quality, value- based audio products to consumers across the country. However, for a number of reasons, most notably the surprisingly poor performance of mobility sales, especially over recent months, we have concluded that the Chapter 11 process represents the best path forward for the Company. We will continue to work with our advisors and stakeholders to preserve as many jobs as possible while maximizing value for our creditors.”

Additional information for customers, vendors and other interested parties is available at www.radioshack.com. Court filings and claims information are available at a separate web site maintained by the Company’s claims agent, Prime Clerk, Prime Clerk or by calling 212-257-5450.

Pepper Hamilton LLP and Jones Day are serving as legal advisors to General Wireless.

Most stores closed.
Those remaining expect to close May 30/31

Batteries going for 2 for 1 in the blister packs.
Up to 80%, and those stores still open are
getting inventory from the warehouse Daily

No Scanners tho.

a few still have the 800 Mhz Antennas and the Rare Telescoping Antenna [Not the angle]

Got some Canon Camera batteries for $18, normally $60

Radio Shack, RIP

Wow, poor RS, first they get whacked by the first bankruptcy "train", they stagger away from that one for the most part still functional, close a few stores, but it seems they didn`t see the second bankruptcy "train", what a mess, i still remember the good ol` days when one could really snag a radio there, and not a cheap one ether, in fact, i got my first (good) ham radios there, an HTX-202 for VHF and an HTX-404 for UHF, best analog/ham band only radios (bricks :)) i ever owned at the time, still mess `em. Well, now we just wait to see what emerges from this one, like i said to a ham friend once about this, they survived the first hit, but it`s the second one that got `em. Radio Shack, R.I.P. End well RS. N9NRA.

Been a while since you've been online? Anyway, this thread is 3 1/2 years old. Some of us saw it coming for a while. When they switched their emphasis to cell phones, everyone wondered how long they would last since there are cell phone stores on every corner. Now we know.

In Delaware the New Castle store will be the last to go. They are taking remaining stock from area stores. The Newark store is days away from being done. Kennett Square is emptying out as is the Paoli likely days from closing too.
