Radio transmission from LEO

Hello, my team and I are launching a cube sat into space. We are fairly new to radio and are not sure what radio transmitters or receivers to use. We would need to transmit to a distance of about 251 miles, we can have a fairly large ground station, but the transmitter and receiver would need to be small for the cube sat. I am not sure what I should use, any suggestions?

I have to admit, this is a STRANGE post. One does not just launch a cubesat into "space" on their own! I agree with DaveNF2G about contacting Amsat.org.

Agree with the other two posters. I doubt that any body here could give advice other than what's already given. AMSAT being your best area of information and advice.
Just out of curiosity, what would this LEO be used for, or is it top secret?

Yes, we understand that, but how.....from where, what is your budget, how much does your 'cubesat' weigh, what is the function, do you have a licence/clearance for the frequencies you intend to use, who is sponsoring your launch vehicle, what orbit do you intend to use... far too many questions without answers.

You have your own Rocket,because putting an Sat into space is not a back yard project.
