• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

A single-frequency repeater function would we awesome on GD77!

Over a year ago I had the same idea (without knowing that the single-frequency repeater is a hytera function) and I asked the guys that write the MD380 firmware if that would be possible. They quickly said that it's unlikely that the hardware (on md380) is suitable for that, but there was no actual testing done.

Again, no. The radio has to be able to buffer at least one timeslot's worth of bits to encode and decode between bits and audio. 33ms worth of bits is well within the buffering capability of the radio. Any DMR radio could function as a single-frequency repeater, if the manufacturer bothered to add the capability to the firmware.

Okay, I was a bit slow on the uptake, but now I fully understand your point. I'm still not sold on the actual utility of such an arrangement, but perhaps I just don't have enough imagination...

The ability to deploy a repeater on any desired frequency without the need for an expensive, bulky, and finicky-to-tune duplexer would seem to be an obvious advantage...

I suppose that if you have a very small area that you need covered it could come in handy. Or, if you can hoist the HT up high in a tree to not quite double the range.

You could also connect it to a base antenna for better neighborhood coverage.

well I need to ask will this radio work with these frequencies I wanted to validate it would before buying this radio.... rr db entry here:
https://www.radioreference.com/apps/db/?ctid=347
planning to purchase it off amazon as soon as someone confirms it will work with the above frequencies https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0749LHXFQ/ref=psdc_912322_t2_B073JS2CQ2

also it supports rx only right to not violate fcc rules right?
There are a lot of frequencies on that page, but if you are referring to the DMR stuff then yes it will (provided they don't use encryption obviously). And yes, you can do RX only.

There is no need for any more updates on that topic. It is not going to happen. They have said this many times. There is not enough on-board memory on the radio to support the entire database.

I programmed all the DMR frequencies in and the green indicator shows it is receiving but I cannot hear anything did I do something wrong on programming it or is there someway you have to program it so you can hear the transmissions?

Do you have the proper timeslots / color code and group code entered? Do you have the group code in an RX Group list and assigned to the channel?

Try pressing the button assigned to the "Monitor" function while on this channel. When you are on a DMR channel this will enter promiscuous mode. This will allow you to hear a DMR transmission using any Color or Talkgroup on the that channel.
