• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I have programmed this thing with a codeplug but it will not scan? What am i missing here..I press scan button and scan fail comes on the screen..

I have had the same issue though like you are unsure how to resolve it, found out though to not check auto scan in the channel options in cps and you just have to manually press scan button for scanning because when you check auto scan it means it automatically scans it doesn't need to be manually triggered though my only problem now is I cannot get it to un mute so I can hear people, it only unmutes for fire rescue dispatch in my area because it has the known talk group in it and besides that was on promiscuous aka monitor mode to scan both timeslots.

I'm not near the radio or computer but there's a setting that says "single single" or "single double". You want it on single single or off. Single double or double double (I can't remember for sure) caused a scan fail.

Caller ID GD-77

The GD-77 will display the caller callsign and DMR ID. It is limited by memory size, however I have downloaded over 1200 in mine so far. The download utility is available of the Radioditty website. The database is available on DMR-Marc. I am still trying to get a name to show with the callsign but the fields appear to be limited. It is a bit tricky with importing the data into excel spreadsheet to format for downlaod. The import utility does not show the file coming in, but its there, then write it to the radio. If you get it wrong the radio will give an error message. You need to put the radio into a special program mode different than the firmware programming mode. Press # key, the 1 key, the blue side key all at once, then turn on the radio. Then write the file to the radio.

GD-77 Charger

How long does it take to charge the GD-77 on the drop in charger?

Does the light on the charger turn green when fully charged or does it stay red?

It's a good 8 hours using the stock charger, and yes the light will turn green.

I ordered one of these today and cannot wait for it to arrive. Hopefully this isn't too silly of a question but I mainly use my current analog HT to communicate with a group of people that also have analog equipment. Am I able to program the frequency we use on digital mode and still hear them or does it need to be in analog mode?

Any idea if there are plans to make GD77 capable of DMRA 40-bit ARC4 encryption? That would make interoperable with other radios.

Encryption

The GD-77 is a low end radio and not intended for professional use like Hytera (not Tytera) or Motorola. Since encryption is not allowed on amateur bands in the US, there is no point to include it in the firmware or to have two different builds that would increase costs. Any user that requires secure coms should be considering a professional brand.

Yes it is low end.
In Poland encryption is not forbidden on amateur bands. Please note that only the voice data is encrypted not the source and target ID.

New radio arrived today.

Updated firmware to V3.0.6. Appeared successful.

Installed software V2.0.5. on my Windows 10 laptop,

Cannot now connect computer to radio. Keep getting "Device not found".

Have tried a Factory Reset as per the Instruction Manual. This has not helped. Now every time I switch the set on I get "Factory Init..." followed by "welcome" and then a display that says "Freq Error".

Any suggestions?

Problem diagnosed...

Faulty socket making intermittent contact with programming lead. Also affects the audio...

Back to supplier methinks!

Does this mean the GD-77 does not include DMR encryption (basic or enhanced)?

It does not contain anything relatively strong, known of algorithm and compatible with something else. 40bit DMRA ARC4 is relativeley weak but at least compatible in between Motorola (enhanced privacy) and Hytera for example.

Granted, 40-bit encryption is not the best but it is a whole lot better than the basic encryption where there are only 256 different codes.

So does the GD-77 have enhanced 40-bit encryption that is compatible with TRBO? Sorry, but I couldn’t figure out from your last post what is has for encryption capabilities. Thanks.
