"From a user's perspective, I hardly run into issues talking to ATC. Now I'm trying to understand the infrastructure that supports that."

Think "big, counterclockwise swirling, dark grey with an olive drab tinted cloud, about 100 agl" not quite touching the ground, angry looking, completely filling your viewfinder" , that infrastructure? Yeah well, your on a ground stop. Check back in 4 hours...lol...

It's not co-located. It's about 10 miles east of the airport or so if I recall.

I spent about 20 years working in Blythe on a regular basis, including many flights there. 10 miles east of the airport is downtown Blythe. There is a site on the south side of the freeway to the east, but I don't remember how far. I recall another on the airport property itself, and then everything that's located at the old FSS. It used to be full of radios. It's been a while, so I don't know if there are any others, but I'd say there's maybe a total of 3-4 sites within 5 miles of the airport which, out there, is essentially at the airport. That's including the VORTAC, which is about 3 miles SW. There's an RCAG on 128.15 that's easily reachable on the ground at the airport, which is why I don't think it's as far as 10 miles east. The RCO is on 122.4. Are you able to nail down the locations by the frequency?

I was just estimating based on the map. It's about 4-5 miles east of the airport.
