Just thought this may interest some, being located in the NYC Metro Area I mainly Monitor NYC public safety, Recently I've tried to see how far I can receive on my Homepatrol-1 with a Diamond RH77CA antenna attached. This is stationary at my desk at home located in Brooklyn, NY on the 4 floor. I'm closer to Manhattan than Queens on a side note.

NEW YORK

Southern Westchester County
Southern Rockland County
Nassau County
Western Suffolk County

NEW JERSEY

Hudson County
Bergen county
Eastern Essex County
Eastern Union county
Eastern Passiac County
North-Eastern Middlesex county

[On Good days, very spotty and rare.]

NEW JERSEY

Entire counties of Essex, Passiac and Union. Northern Middlesex and Monmouth Counties.

NEW YORK

Entire Counties of Rockland, Westchester and Suffolk. Southern tip of Orange and Putnam Counties.

CONNECTICUT

Southern Fairfield County, South-Western New Haven County.

I'm real interested in hearing the reception you fellas have had if your located in or near the NY Metro area. What's the farthest you've received?

I am on the South Shore of Long Island in western Suffolk County just east of the Nassau County border . Currently I only have an HP-1, I switch on and off between a Diamond RH77CA antenna and a Radio Shack 800mhz antenna , it is kept in a spare room on the first floor of a 2 floor house . Besides Suffolk and Nassau Counties . I receive the NYPD , FDNY and most other NYC departments and boroughs very well with the exception of Staten Island . Going north , I have heard the NYSDOT from New City in Rockland County and a few things from Mount Vernon in Westchester . Going south I regularly here a few things from Monmouth County NJ . When I had a BC9000XLT (I sold it about a year ago) with a stock antenna , kept in the same room , I heard much more including many of the small town PD's from Westchester , I would hear things from Rockland and Putnam Counties and lots more from eastern NJ and even southern CT .

Wow that's killer, I've noticed as well that my HP-1 doesn't receive as well compared to my RS Pro-197 and my portable UHF Vertex Radio. I've been having quite a good listen with Newark, NJ on weekend nights. I remember years back before they went encrypt I stayed at a friends place in the Bronx and my scanner picked up Bridgeport, CT.
