because with Zadig you will be able to literally choke (forcibly change at the core input level) the USB audio drivers and then reinstall them back to win10 default. But if your dism is already corrupted - windows refresh may be your only way out. I think you may be missing the point on "looking for a USB with its "own" driver" ....its ALL unifed now...its literally a Software Defined Device.

This is the "unified driver" that "should" be the one that its using. It from Microsoft. No matter the USB AUDIO DEVICE you plug in, they will all use this same driver.

Ya I see 4 different variations of that machine. IF you do actually have a driver store problem, I'd just run windows refresh and let it rebuild itself. I doubt any sound device you insert (since they all are going to be using the same USB unified driver in) is going to cause what you are describing.
I get it. A Refresh will likely fix it. Still requires me to reinstall all of my non MS 3rd party programs and stuff. I need to prep for that. I tried reverting to a July disk image I had but apparently the component store issue was present then too but didn't know it.

During all this I also discovered a "corrupted component store" error after trying to run SFC and DISM.
You've probably did this already but just in case. Try searching for "corrupted component store error after trying to run SFC and DISM"
It appears to be fixable.

Thanks, but yeah I searched that error and got pretty much same results as that did. None of the DISM commands, reset Win Update, Update Troubleshooter, run commands in safe mode and from boot media, disabled AV program, etc. etc. worked. It's refresh/reinstall time. In the prep process for that now. Saving license keys, etc. Fortunately there's little personal data on C: as I use and E: drive and external USB drive for storage.

One question for you: Best way to backup Proscan files for reinstall?

Just a long shot. I just remembered the trick that shows all devices you've had in the past.
Perhaps deleting and checking the uninstall drivers for this device may help. It has worked for me in the past.
You'll want to launch a command prompt with administrator privileges. Then paste this line into it:
set devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices=1
Hit enter then open device manager then click View>Show Hidden Devices.
Delete everything related to your device that you may think is corrupted. Of course your USB audio device will be unplugged.
Reboot the pc. Cold reboot, not restart.
Take a look at device manager again and make sure you did a good job. You may wish to paste the text in a cmd prompt again first.
Plug your device in again and see what happens. Maybe update the drivers from Windows Update.
Short of a reformat, which is a pita but is really the best fix without wasting a day trying to get things fixed., it should work if it's going to.
There are tools out there to backup IE, Edge, Firefox credentials, passwords, etc. first to external storage.
It's crazy when these things happen. My driver-less devices like the Behringer have never really refused to work.
Good luck!

Just save the folder to a temp folder so it can be copied back. If ProScan is installed in the Program Files(x86) folder AND running 64 bit OS AND not running ProScan in admin mode then Windows puts all program generated files in the VirtualStore folder located at C:\Users\[user]\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\ProScan

Well, I'm back. Re installed Windows and almost everything else re-installed. The Sabrent USB Audio Device installed properly and seems to be working. Hallelujah! Connected the 15X to it and got ProScan running. Win 10 says "ProScan is using your microphone" and it's obviously recording. I opened the speaker icon and selected the USB device. Tried selecting a few different recordings in ProScan Recorder screen and "Play" but nothing thru speakers. Sure I'm missing something but a little guidance from here appreciated.

Um you can check and make sure the endpoint for the audio is actually going to your realtek audio out device and not trying to send it to the Sabrent audio out ...thats all in the new built in audio routing sections of Win10. Right click on your taskbar sound icon > open sound settings > Advanced sound options at the very bottom (sometimes it's off the bottom of the viewable screen) and see which device W10 is routing the proscan audio too.
