From the documentation available on the My Uniden website, it looks to me like this update will allow you to set a custom band plan up for a trunking system - which is what you need in order to be able to hear Red Deer properly.

I asked the question in the Uniden forum in one of the update threads, just to be sure.

UPMan's answer is "Yes, but you will have to reprogram the system as an 800 Custom system". And the UASD and other software is not configured to handle the new firmware's features yet, so you'll be doing this by hand...

I will be updating the Red Deer entry in the DB as much as I can later on, when I figure out what band plan to use (the instructions are in the documentation in the firmware package).

It looks like uniden put a new firmware update out for the 246T (ver 2.05.01) that allows you to manually set the freqency steps in a trunking system...I will give this a shot and let everyone know if im successful....wouldnt that be lovely :D

There's no indication of what the "rebanding update" will do for the 396 when it's released tomorrow (later today really) ... Paul Opitz (UPMan) would be a better person to ask.

I would suspect that the 396XT would do everything the 396T will with the new firmware update.

Good news, after installing the latest (3.00) firmware my 396T was able to at least start tracking the Red Deer system.
I had to manually re-create the system as Custom set 800 Mhz system before it started to work.
I had only minutes to "play" so until someone else can confirm this, I can't say for certain its 100% fixed and working yet

Okay!

Confirmed that Red Deer is working on a 996 with the latest firmware.

I put the data in my scanner with ARC996PRO before I left the house, and ... it didn't work. I chalk that up to ARC996; I don't think it's doing the programming right. It's unfortunate that this program doesn't co-operate on a number of levels, because it is a godsend on a whole other number of levels (such as dragging and dropping systems in the quick key screen).

I had to reprogram the entire system by hand sitting in a parking lot off Gaetz for a half an hour.

Enter all six lines of the custom band plan, as shown in the DB entry here on the site, in the order listed. These are the same band plans Unitrunker has in its data files. You will then have full functionality on the Red Deer trunk system.

Now all we need is the IDs for the talkgroups! Jaythescanman, you around? :D

progress?

A bit of a bump here to see if any progress has been made with this. Just got the new firmware installed on my 246t and haven't been able to hear a thing (probably just user error) was just wondering if the numbers are wrong or where if it's just where i'm putting them.

I monitored Red Deer's trunk system all weekend long a couple of weeks ago, using both a BCD396XT and a PSR500 - including the latter via Unitrunker. Just use the custom band plan shown in the RadioReference database for that system and you'll be good to go.

The 246T does not allow for a custom band plan no matter the version of firmware, unlike other scanners. I have had no luck getting the red deer system to track properly on 3 different 246T's, with that particular scanner, you will need to program the system conventionally using the frequencies in the RR Database that I have supplied. (you can try using a motorola type II "SPLINTER") but that doesnt change the .125khz difference in the way the scanner reads the control channel (what is actually 866.0500 the scanner reads as 866.1750)

Actually, Jay, the documentation on the latest firmware update for the 246T says it can do custom band plans just fine. Look for the section titled "Motorola 800 Custom Band Plan (Rebanding)".

dabigpig - When I programmed it into my 396XT, it asked me for an upper frequency for each band plan too. I just used 868.9875, the highest frequency available for that part of the band. Didn't have any problems with it set up that way.

So, set them up as follows:

Band Plan 1: Low freq 866.0 - High freq 868.9875 - Offset 600 - Spacing 25kHz
Band Plan 2: Low freq 866.0 - High freq 868.9875 - Offset 720 - Spacing 25kHz
Band Plan 3: Low freq 867.0 - High freq 868.9875 - Offset 815 - Spacing 25kHz
Band Plan 4: Low freq 868.975 - High freq 868.9875 - Offset 958 - Spacing 25kHz
Band Plan 5: Low freq 867.425 - High freq 868.9875 - Offset 961 - Spacing 25kHz

Well Im happy that you were successful with the 246T, I just decided it was better to just get rid of it and upgrade, the $210.00 I paid for it just wasnt worth the pain it put me through not just with the red deer trunk, but a couple of others aswell. WAY happier with the one I have now, it does everything I need and when the RCMP goto 700MHz this one is ready to go. I really wasnt happy with the unit from day one. Good on ya, Hope you enjoy!

I have the new 396XT and am trying to set Red Deer in my new scanner am just wondering if anyone knows the polarity setting for the offset on system. The new 396 asks for the polarity foe each offset. Thanks for any help.

Haha...I have the same question, I just got the same menu on my 996 with the updated firmware, either someone has the answer or I'll sweat it out and get back to you as I am living in the Red Deer area now.

DX-300 I set them all to negative and when I was traveling threw Red Deer I could hear them. The only thing is I only heard the Transit talk groups and nobody else. But I was only traveling threw and only stopped for a short while. Will be traveling threw again this weekend and will listen again. Let me know whet you find out though.
