• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Remember your CB radio call sign?

KWM4832, Maryland suburbs of Washington DC. My Dad was Bluegrass (which I now use) and I was Big Midget when I was a kid. Those were the days: modified President Grant, 200W Palomar linear, K40 antenna in a Chevy Suburban. We had to put an alternator from a truck in my Dad's car to keep the headlights from going off whenever we keyed the thing. In the late 70's the sun was very active and we could shoot skip all the way to Barbados.

CB Call sign

Hi - Was in CB late 60's up to mid 70's - went by the handle Woodbutcher. Still have a couple of my QSL cards as well as a box full of skip cards ( mostly USA ) . I ran a Realistic TRC- 48 side band with a 100 watt kicker and a 3 element beam mounted on the vertical.

I remember my callsign. KSN8742

Although the license weren't supposed to be transferrable mine was originally in my brothers name as I was too young to hold CB license. When it came time to renew everything was the same but I changed the first name on the application and to my surprise the paper work went threw. I got to keep the call sign as mine !! It still hangs on the wall to this day next to my HAM ticket. Finally bit the bullet and learned the code in 1977 and got my novice. After that I was really hooked on CW and had my extra a few years later.

Great times and great memories. Lots of high school friends were on the CB. We used to use TRC-25A walkie-talkies on our bikes !! I so miss those days.

73's

P.S. We even had a separate call for the base station at our family TV repair shop !!

my call sign

I used to date a truck driver in the mid 70's with the handle 'SugarShack'. My handle was 'BamBam'... lol. My call sign was KBKX7877. I can't believe I still remember that! Those were the best days of my life!
