• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Remember your CB radio call sign?

Friend has one. He was offered $40K for it!! ;)

I purchased the T/A new in 1977 drove it for two years and then traded it at the local Chevy dealer for a new K-5 Blazer V-8. Yup, looking back, a very stupid move.

I've seen that car go for $150K at one of the national celebrity car auctions on TV.

Yep! My friend's T/A is not even in great shape! Has some rust and dents, and could use new upholstery, paint, and an engine rebuild!! There is a company now that actually converts new Camaros into replica T/As.

Got my license in 1976, if I am not mistaken; received the call sign of KPN8448. Went by the handle of Southern Cross out of Lynn, MA

CB call sign

Back in 1975 I wasn't old enough to apply so my dad did. KJS2331 was it and was good until 1980. I went by Lucky or Mr. Lucky. I was just at the old house cleaning it out after they passed and found the original station license from the FCC. Even found a box of my old QSL cards, almost all gone from sending them around the US after a connection. Those were the days of clean fun, well, living in Chicago, this was all the clean fun, lol.

Brings back memories! Can you post a shot of that QSL? I found a bunch of old CB QSL cards at my parents home in the attic! :)

Highway Cowboy. Started in 1958. KAB-4461. Ran Outlaw for two years but became a legit QSL in 1960. Still have the original some where in my box of old junk.

Got back into CB this summer when I moved to Canada as SNOW WALKER

1958? That's when it all began! Do you remember what kind of equipment you were using way back then? :)

It was still the old tube radio CB. I am not sure if I have this correct or not, I think the CBs had A & B, classifications back then. Many of the LD trucking companies were using military 5 channel radios left over from the Korean war. The CBs in the first two trucks I was on ("I need conformation from a radio guru on this") on this but I think they had - Realist - 10 channel class Bs. When I got a job with Trans America Express in 1960 all their drivers were required to have a QSL license. They had the new 23 channel Realistic (?) CB radios. They were still quite large at that time.

When Trans America sold out I got a coast to coast job with Trans Canada Express. (1965???- or so) We had to have external speakers wired into the new Motorola (??) radios because the motor and road noise was terrible in the old cab overs. All this seems so long ago.

CB Radio Call Signs

CB Call Sign in 1970 was KDS 7559 "This is KDS Seven, Double-Nickel Nine"

After the three year period the FCC allowed for the first call sign above; it changed to KAYD 6270 in late 1973; lost interest after that but had loads of fun.

My radio was a Tektronics Pacer II, Transmit/Receive Crystals (internal) Channels 1 through 9; Channels 10 through 23 were external (plugged into a jack on the front of the radio). Turner Power microphone; and Had a "Super Mag" antenna up on the roof of the house. With this setup I could talk under conditions of "skip" late at night to people as far away as Missouri.

My radio handle was "Redskin"; my High School's Mascot.
