Hi,

I can’t seem to listen to Fire, Police and Ambulance anymore.

What are people using?

Thanks

The owner of the feeds needed to retire it unfortunately.

Best bet is to either make your own setup or get a scanner capable of those things. Granted, EMS and OPP are on the way out sometime in the near future with a new system on its way.

Thank you for your response. I’m not sure what you mean by my own setup or get my own. Can you help me out with that?

Thank you

Basically, it means spending a little moola.

"my own set up" = (the easier route), is also more expensive (get your own scanner to program with your favorites)
"get my own" = (the cheaper way), will mean buying a USB radio receiver, downloading software and setting it up on a laptop and tuning to the system you are interested in (if you are comfortable following technical directions)

If those "money" options aren't to your liking, you will have to be patient and wait until someone new sets up a scanner feed for your area.

To add to mciupa's post there are a lot of people here in the Ontario forums, not to mention the full RR site who will be happy to advise and help you get going with your own setup.

Thank you. Do you have any suggestions on which ones work best to purchase?

I would leave those suggestions up to people who actually live up that way on what they use. I will delete any replies from non-Ontario residents.

Someone stepped up to the plate to host a scanner feed, but due to technical issues with their reception location - they had to stop as it was unreliable.

Oh that’s unfortunate. I'm trying to find a way to listen again, but haven’t come up with anything. If I purchase a scanner that would work, any suggestions as to what to purchase?
Thanks

If you want a hand-held unit, the cheapest is the BCD325P2. The desktop version of that model is the BCD996P2. Those require a good external antenna that you would put outside your home. They also require programming. If you want the next level up that is much easier to program would be the BCD436/536.

Important: OPP and EMS in Ontario is switching to encryption very soon. In fact, they have already started their testing. This will result in you not being able to hear them. So, spending hundreds of $ on a scanner and antenna will be a waste of your money.

If you want to hear some scanner action, the Ottawa OPP/EMS feed is still online. I know it's not Renfrew, but it does get very busy with lots of interesting incidents.
