Regarding the post I made several days ago about paying for a voice channel on a local smr system. I have contacted another smr provider that is enthusiastic about providing a TG on his system for a voice side for MNN. This system will be on 900mhz and is analog trunked. However, the diferrent tower sites are not networked. So we would pick one tower and that would it the tower the system would use. There is a tower on MT Thordon right beside the DTRS Tower and there is one on another peak and I forget the name right now and do not have my notes. But it has excellent coverage from FT Collins to castle rock and way east. Thordon has even better coverage than that for the exception that thordon has a shadow over the c-470 corridor from about jewell to orchard or so.

The cost for this system would be about $10 a month per radio and would be programmed by the system provider only. Also, you can get a portable any day of the week off ebay for about $100 dollars that will work perfect on this system. So does this change anyones minds for the better. Any one interested.

Ok good. We can choose from El dorado mountain site or the thordon site. I was thinking of asking for both sites in the radio and after a month or two of testing we could decide which site works best for the majority and go with it and they would turn off the other talkgroup.

I am trying to get coverage maps of the sites. They are suppose to send them to me early next week.

Just so everyone knows, the price is not finalized yet. but I was told it will be around $10 a month. maybe a dollar higher. It is probably billed every quarter so every three months you would pay $30 - 33 for the system use. The system use is unlimited.

I have actually used a radio on the el dorado mtn site before and it covered all over the place incuding up into fort collins and into greeley. And I know fromt he DTRS site on thordon that it has a very large foot print except for along the 470 corridor like was stated above.

Just so everyone knows up front. I am not affiliated in any way with the carrier. I will not profit it any way from this. I am just sitting it up. Everyone will deal with the smr dealer for problems with the site, billing etc... I am just getting the idea out ther since I think it will be a huge enhancement to what MNN is .....

Thanks,

Dave

I'm in and initially El Dorado has a better foot print for me, but testing will tell.

On a side note I've received Thorodin DTRS well East of Limon, North of Cheyenne, WY and south to Monument Hill, if his repeater has a similiar range.

The repeater on thordin is a 900mhz 100 watt unit and should have a lot of the same chareristics that the dtrs system on that mountain top has.

I am in as well, but I may not be able to be active on the system for a while. I am currently saving my money for a bc396t. How many talkgroups would we have on the system? Would we legally be able to patch scanner audio on the tg?

For those of you that are interested. Equipment wise you will need a LTR capable 900mhz trunked radio. I would assume that most of you would pruchase a portable radio. All the major manufacturers make ltr 900mhz radios. They are cheap on the market right now. Especially motorola gtx portables. I would recommend the kenwoods or motorolas to start off with.

I will get a list of portables tuesday from the smr provider as to what they recommend for their system.

Keep in mind that you will pay a monthly fee for EACH radio that you have programmed on the system. So bear in mind that you can not have three or four radios all programmed up for the system for your use and think that you will only have a $10 a month (or whatever it ends up being) fee for all those radios.

At the beginning I will only have one TG. If the idea takes off like I hope it will I would like to add a second TG someday that would be a chat type or contact type TG that would leave the primary TG open all the time for dispatches of incidents that are happening. With the 2nd TG will more than likely come a slightly higher usage fee charged by the smr provider. But you never know, if we get a large group involved, maybe we could get a very very good deal on a second TG. Only time will tell.

As for patching live audio into the radio system. NO. You can transmit your voice and thats it. In the future, once again, if the system becomes very popular we could revisit that idea at some point.

In addition even though as I have stated I will not profit from this in any way. I will instigage, through the smr provider a means of control of the system. I wish this to be a professionally run system. I want it to be fun and useful and a place for hobbyiest to get together and chat etc..however, I don't wish it to be abused. So I will set up certain safeguards to protect all members since everyone will be paying to use the system.

If you have any other questions, fire away.

Well I'm living up in Wyoming temporarily, so I'm not bidding on any of those radios right now. But I really hope this idea becomes a hit. I think this system is a great idea.
