I've been scanning Richmond PD quite a bit lately. I did a search in the forums and didn't find anything specifically related to Richmond PD unit designators, so I thought I would post what I've discovered. I'm sure there are others who can contribute additional info.

First I'll post the EBRCS radio ID (approximate) ranges.

Code:
4282000-4282005   Dispatch consoles (6)
4300000-4300249   Portable
4300250-4300449   Mobile/Base

The unit callsigns follow this format: [Shift]-[Type]-[Beat] for beat patrol and [Type]-[Number] for others. My guesses are in square brackets.

Code:
[Shift]
1             Graveyard   2130-0730 Mon-Thurs   1900-0730 Fri-Sun
2             Day         0700-1700 Mon-Thurs   0700-1930 Fri-Sun
3             Swing       1530-0130 Mon-Thurs   1300-0130 Fri-Sun

[Beat]
1-9           Geographic Beats
>9 [Second unit assigned to beat?]

[Type]
A (Adam)      ?
B (Bravo)     [Reserve Officer?]
C (Charles)   [CSO? (non-sworn)]
D (David)     [Detective?]
E (Edward) Crime Scene Investigator/Identification (sworn officer)
G (George)    Gang
K             K9
L (Lincoln) Beat Patrol (sometimes just say "L")
PA            [Parking? (non-sworn)]
S (Sam)       Patrol Sergeant
SA Special Assignment (often a weekend patrol officer working
                                  on a weekday and vice versa)
SR            School Resource
T (Tom)       Traffic
V (Victor)    Camera Operator, [Others?]
W (William)   [Booking?]

[Number]
>100          [Supervisors?]

A (Adam) may be Administration. i.e. higher ranked department officials than sergeant. Beats > 9 could be 2nd unit on beat, or even denote a 2-man unit if Richmond can ever afford to staff them.

Great work! I have scanned Richmond PD in the past and figured they followed the [shift] [type] [beat] format (with L (Lincoln) denoting 1-man patrol unit), but I hadn't made it much further than that.

Adam units can mean two things...

A 1 thru 9 = Command Staff (ie A1 is the Chief)

1A1 = 2 man car, graveyard, beat 1

Others inquired about are...

W = Watch Commander (ie William 114)

B (BRAVO) = Bicycle patrol

C = Cadet

PA = Parking Enf.

CE = Code Enf.

Beats >9 is second car, same beat (ie 1L11 would be graveyard, 1 man, second car on beat 1)
