Ok, I've got a Pro 106 digital scanner from radio shack and have been listening to police and all the other public services in Portland. Occasionally I'll here amtrak working on some of the overlapping frequencies, when scanning digitally, under the "scan" button (I think from the "Advanced Train Control System" frequencies). Now, if I head over to south portland to rigby yard and set the scanner to the "SRCH" option and select "railroad" and it automatically starts scanning through the normal analog RR frequencies which can be seen here: On Track On Line - Scanner Radio.

I hear almost nothing and the catch is that if am using a friends analog RS PRO-404 with those 97 frequencies programed manually at the same time, I can hear everything from car knockers on handhelds to road crews in the cabs to dispatch, etc, while the PRO 106 remains silent. So.... since the PRO 106 dig is so complicated (for me at least), can anyone point out how to manually program those 97 RR frequencies, into it, via the "SCAN" or "SRCH," or if there is some special setting that I'm missing?

Thanks

I would recommend against programming in all 97 AAR channels, there are many users on the railroad channels in Maine, with even more once the MSCOMMNET system comes online. For the Portland area you will need only the following channels (all of these use no PL):
160.620 Pan AM District 1 (east of South Portland) road / dispatcher channel
161.250 Pan AM District 1 yard channel
160.380 is the District 1 Maintenance channel, but I've never heard it used.
161.160 Pan Am District 2 (West of South Portland) dispatcher transmit
161.520 Pan Am District 2 trains transmit
161.400 Pan Am District 2 yard channel (this and 161.250 are used interchangeably at Rigby)
161.370 is the District 2 Maintenance channel, limited use
160.365 has been reportedly used by Amtrak in Portland, but I'm not sure for what
160.245 Maine Narrow Gauge Ch.01
160.500 Maine Narrow Gauge Ch.02
160.965 St. Lawrence & Atlantic Ch.01
160.815 St. Lawrence & Atlantic Ch.02
