Been using the RSP1A for over three years, have not had one problem.
I've only been using mine for about a month and am pleased with it, but when I put up the outside antenna this spring I need to get it further away from my PC and router and enclose it in a metal case.

Socket B is the old printer style port. It's great if your SDR is meant for the desktop and will never move but it's hardly the best option. While USB-C is all the rage, USB Mini is probably best. USB-Micro works for the Airspy R2 but I'd rather have Mini in that case.

USD-micro terrible connector--try inserting one correctly in dim light. Nothing wrong with USB-B. I have very expensive devices currently sold devices (>$2000 and they are not printers) that use it and it is fine--in fact it is a frequent choice for such products.

Does the RSP1B work with SDRTRUNK version 6 final without any additional setup? Also can you use this device to monitor two separate P25 trunked systems within in the same bandwidth range?

My antenna is on my 70' tower, the RSP1A is between to computers and four monitors. Again with no problems. Good luck with device. I use mind everyday.

The release of sdrtrunk version 0.6.1 Beta 1 added the SDRplay RSP1B tuner and API 3.14 support.

You will need to download API 3.14 from SDRplay.

I believe it is technically possible to monitor two P25 systems with one tuner. Maybe someone else can provide a more definitive answer.

SDRTrunk can decode/monitor as much as you want within the visible bandwidth of the hardware you're using, subject of course to the ability of the PC to keep up with it. I've got the latest build of SDRTrunk decoding 7 P25 sites across 4 different 700 MHz P25 Phase II systems with my RSP2pro.

You will need the SDRPlay API installed and running before you can use the RSP device with SDRTrunk, as @R0am3r already explained.

Hi Folks,

I own the RSP1a and find it an excellent bit of kit. I mainly use it for monitoring my local airfield before I go flying but also enjoy HF listening.

Sensitivity wise it is comparable to my Yaesu FT897D (purely in ear terms..) but suffers from selectivity issues at higher frequencies - especially on the VHF airband.

I'm wondering if they've improved the "MW/FM" notch filter? The current one doesn't appear to have a sharp enough slope and knocks out the lower end of the Airband spectrum for me so I find myself manually reducing the RF gain instead.

I tried the new SDR Connect software but the squelch makes a loud popping noise on my system so I've gone back to the tried and trust SDRuno which is much easier on my ears.

Anyway tempted by the RSP1b if only for the metal enclosure. If I do buy one I'll post a review on here. At the moment my RSP1A resides in an old Fruit Cake tin (no jokes please;)

Cheers

I am listening to my RSP1b right now in SDRuno. The only few ways it differs from the RSP1a is

-Improved MW/LW noise figure
-A very agile metal enclosure
-Improvement on 160m

Aircraft "channel spacing" is 25khz. If you can use 25khz or 5khz step size you're fine. Selectivity is great on both RSP1a and RSP1b. Selectivity is processed in the software. Any SDR just grabs a swath of spectrum then converts it to digital to the computer with the running software that is actually processing that digitized RF spectrum to human understanding. It is not like an analogue stand-alone radio using PLL conversion or some dsp chip that would have selectivity issues if it were to have.

Always use the same bandwidth aircraft uses. It can be adjusted in the AUX SP panel of SDRuno.

This so called "selectivity issue" thing in a SDR is misnomer. Most SDR software don't have this issue.

Thanks for the info on the RSPAb. I'm not interested in MW/LW or 160m so I'll stick with my RSP1a and fruit cake tin.

I'm in the U.K where aircraft VHF frequency channel spacing is 8.33khz not 25khz.

In my experience the RSP1A with SDRuno does have medium-poor selectivity on Airband when confronted by strong signals. Your experience may differ. I live under the Heathrow approach path in London so was expecting a bit of interference. Regardless I still think it's an excellent bit of kit and nearly as good as my £1000 Yaesu.

Update...

I take back what I said about the selectivity in the RSP1A!

I installed the latest version of SDRuno a few weeks ago (just before I posted on this thread) and have now realised that the IF AGC was ticked ON (IF AGC settings are in the MAIN window "SETT" option for anyone interested).

I have now ticked OFF the IF AGC and set it manually for lowest noise floor (38db in my case) and it has transformed the receiver on Airband frequencies. No intermod or selectivity issues even with S9 +40 transmissions on nearby frequencies.

A fabulous little box of radio heaven.
