Based on Googling, it appears that rehab units provide "rehabilitation" support to first responders (rehydration, rest, cooling/warming). There seems to be quite a variety. Some agencies have rehab units that are staffed by volunteers, others have a regional shared rehab vehicle. Sometimes it is a bus but often a retired ambulance gets repurposed for rehab. Depending on the climate they are outfitted with AC and/or heating. Some carry misting units to set up a "cool" area to which personnel can retreat. As you mention, they are generally only rolled out to large or extended incidents.

P.S., I've been happy with my 396T

Rehab units for Sac City fire are where all of the fluids, snacks, etc are carried. They roll these trucks out on extended calls (structure fires, drownings where the body is still in the water) etc. They're very nice to have.

They usually carry Gatorade (or equivalent) or water in bottles or coolers, as well as other snacks etc. They're available to all the responders on a call.

The fire re-hab units are good people. We've used them several times on long drawn out perimeters and such.

I completely agree that the Sacramento City Reserves and the "Fire Buffs" provide a great and needed service to the public safety personnel in the field.

Having been fed by Sacramento City Fire's RH 99 during a USAR deployment in 2005, the food is pretty darn good.

Here are the links to both of their websites for more information about these great people:

Happy Thanksgiving to All!!!

You haven't had chili until you've had Puppy's chili.

Well, I hope one day that happens and the sooner the better.

Puppy is a great guy!
