No damage to mine. I just noticed it because the battery voltage on the screen showed zero.My question to all with the battery issue, when you contacted Uniden what was there reply? Thanks!
One more question did the issue cause damage to your scanner? Thanks!
Consumer Product Safety CommissionHope you folks with battery swelling are contacting the correct federal agency to report this crap. Not sure which one but they need to be aware of this issue.
It is currently in stock on Amazon.I used mine mainly as a desktop radio. Took it portable now and again when there was some action to listen to away from my desk. The battery has never run flat. USB power permanently plugged in. It came with the high capacity battery and I have had the radio for a few years.
By the way the high capacity battery is currently out of stock on the Uniden website.
Thanks for the link. Many reports there of exactly the same problem. Makes no sense buying another one for the same issue to occur. Specially after Uniden's ridiculous reply to my email. Some ownership of the problem or reassurance for the customers would help a great deal.It is currently in stock on Amazon.
If it didn't take a number of days for them to reply I would agree with you. It may be a standard reply but not an auto one!!The email you got is an auto reply, if there is no other damage then you need to replace the battery and keep your finger’s crossed! Good luck!

My money is on you will buy another battery. Batteries are consumables, always have been, probably will be for awhile yet."Is Uniden aware of this potentially hazardous situation? What steps have been taken to make sure that replacement batteries will not suffer the same fate. There is no point in wasting money on buying a new battery if the same problem is going to re-occur."
Uniden uses a third party to supply batteries, typically in China where QA is lacking. It's not a problem with your radio. Yes, it's a crap shoot but I have spare batteries and none have swelled. After continually getting canned replies from email support I reached out via Facebook and was able to establish a dialog. I was again told to send the radio in for repair.
Do the folks at Uniden actually read and comprehend before issuing a reply? I also asked the following with no reply
