Every question I have had so far has been asked and answered by someone on these forums, except this one. When setting up the custom table for Salem County TRS the database shows the base and spacing but no offset. As of yet I have not hit upon the fix with my fiddling around. The way my 96 is set now while scanning it will stop on TG's and display the TG # but with no audio output but in manual I get the audio. Hopefully someone here can clue me in as to what I'm missing.
On another note, just as a general question, what exactly (in laymans terms) happens with the atmosphere to allow distant (100mile) transmissions to come in so crystal clear at times? I'm in extreme S.E. PA and at times will pick up FDNY clear as a bell on an old beat up SC150 with an even more beat up rubber duck. Yet most of the time their signal is not reachable at all. I have always just considered it a rare pretty cool treat when I do pick them up and am assuming it is due to atmospheric changes. I would also assume that it would be unrealistic to hope to be able to erect some sort of external antenna that would be able to pick them up on a regular basis at this range. I'm pleading ignorance hear, I'm still pretty low on the antenna learning curve.

These are enhanced radio wave propogation conditions and are sometimes
reffered to as ducting or ehancement events. The conditions are usually where you have warm are trapped close to the ground by a layer of cold air above it. This layer of warm air trapped close to the ground can be a few hundred to about 2 or 3 thousand feet above the ground. This layer of warm air is usually filled with alot of moisture. This layer of warm moist air can be hundreds of miles long & wide and sometimes enhances the propogation of radio waves. That is about a general an answer I can give and there are variations of these types of conditions too nuemerous to account for here in this forum........dan

About 2 or 3 weeks ago I could pick up Delaware County, PA on some of the Ocean County Public Safety TRS frequencies. The skip was very strong, some people on the TRS (probably techs.) were saying that that was the strongest signal from Delaware County, PA that they had ever heard before. It lasted for 2 days.

Still not getting them.

Thanks for the help, but when I checked my setup that is exactly how It was.......base=493.0125 spacing=25.0 offset=380. Now I'm really confused. All the freq's are loaded as "MO" and it's in open mode. Is there something I'm missing?

Thanks for the info. Figured it to be a mix of science and magic. lol.

It was during the same time period that I got to listen to FDNY. I see that some of our freq's are the same as yours, only we are not trunked. Hope you enjoyed the listen and we didn't cause too many problems for O.C. Did you catch any decent action?

Thanks to all that responded, hopefully I'll get this Salem Co. thing worked out soon. I know they are kind of slow volume wise but when they see work it is usually a job worth listening in on. ( I only monitor fire channels).

Thanks again,
Tom

Hello,

Check your settings for the Bank and see if the 3600 CC Mode is set to Table. Custom Tables are used for MOT Type I or IIi Hybrid Systems. If you use Win96, I can send you a p96 file with Salem Co. My PRO 96 and PRO 2096 track this system fine.

I heard some fires. It was fun, I never heard another state's law-enforcement forces except New York back when I lived in North Jersey. The fire pager alarm sound over there is, well, odd. Anyway, it didn't really mess with Ocean County until it got really strong, but that just caused some interference and no major things happened here during those 2 days.

Thank you sir! That was the problem, my 96 was on "normal" as soon as I put it on "table" everything started to work fine. :D Unfortunatly I don't have Win96 yet, hopefully I won't be crosseyed by the time I get around to getting it from entering all my text via the keypad!

Glad to hear we didn't disrupt much. I don't know who's tones you heard as all of ours go out on 46.48 and 154.205(new system, not on full time yet.) Our tones are all just your garden variety two part deal. To us some of the Salem, Gloucester and Camden tones are "odd" , my wife thinks the aliens are landing when the "all call" warble is added on to the dispatch tones.
