I was wondering if any of you has heard about the SAME (FIPS) Weather Alert
there is a large list of alert codes for many counties
I have entered the alert code in my hand held scanner

the list can find found here

Yes, that's what all radios in the last 5+ years utilize. Are you looking for help with it?

You have to put your scanner into a dedicated weather-only mode for FIPS, you cannot listen to anything else while it's waiting for SAME codes.

Fips code

Hello

I have a radio shack pro-97 scanner and have been slowly getting frequencys into it

I have questiions about fips code ..I live in Dallas Texas , Dallas county .

Now I see the fips code for my county is 48113 but when I enter it the scanner just beeps ..I figured out that the scanner wants another digit to complete the entry ...I added a zero at the end 48113 0 and it allowed me to enter code ?

Im not sure about the zero ...I have since changed the placement of the zero to be the first digit 048113

Im not sure if i have entered the proper code now because I have the zero there ...

Any help here would be appreciated ..

Thanks

Not so with the newer scanners and some of the ham gear. My Pro-160 will scan while ever 6 seconds it checks for a WX alert. My Icom IC-2200H, BCT-15 and Pro-197 all do the same thing. Some of the older scanners could do one or the other but never both at the same time. So if you have newer scanner, check to see if it has the Weather Alert(priority) function.

Absolutely wrong...

I know, but we're talking about checking for a SAME alert. That it does not do. No scanner or ham rig does.

What rdale is saying is that they will detect the 1050 khz tone for a alert, but they will not decode the SAME message while scanning.
