I have a couple of SAME weather radios now, but I am considering buying another one. Anyway, does anybody have any specific recommendations on great weather radios or, for that matter, radios to stay away from. I have to imagine somea re a bit more sensitive than others. Also, some might be better built than others. Lets hear it , what weather radio should I buy?

I have a RadioShack WX desktop radio, but we can't find the exact model number. It cost me 50 bucks but has been alerting faithfully for many years now. I like it because all the county and event codes are preprogrammed, so setting it up is super-easy: all you have to do is choose the counties and events you want. It also takes batteries making it handy for severe situations. I live 30 miles or so from the transmitter and reception is fabulous, crystal-clear most of the time. My only complaint is that there is no volume control, and its very loud, making it impractical to use it to simply check the forecast.

Another vote for the Reecom R-1630. I have several here at work that I have interfaced with our PA systems and also have one at my home. All have been in service for several years with no problems. The 1630 also has a jack for an external antenna, an audio output jack and a programmable relay output if you need such things. I have found that some of the RS models stop receiving the SAME codes, thus won't sound for warnings. Got mine at Amazon.
