I have the submission but it is very large as you know. I will work it as soon as I can. We are all volunteers after all. Thanks for the nice addition regardless. Just to confirm, the talkgroup patches only work when a radio on the P25 side affiliates, correct?

Updated. Only thing that you will notice is that we try to avoid all caps-style radio tags going forward as we are trying to make the alpha tags understandable for all levels of scanner users. Example: FD TA 1 would be Fire Talkaround1 or at least Fire Talk 1.

Also, Dark_Side, since you have such good info on the system, I wanted to know specifically are all these talkgroups standalone unless patched to EDACS/VHF by a console? I usually only hear the SAPD ones intermittently. Is there something else, like an automatic patch if a radio is affiliated to the TG on the P25 side?

I've been hearing BCSO, BCFA, and SAPD pretty active on the SAUA system. Nothing from SAFD. The SAUA system is very clear compared to the Provoice out in East Bexar.

Do either of you know what system is being planned to replace the current Provoice or if it is going to be something that can be scanned?

A Phase 2 P25 system is planned to be in use by the end of 2020 if I remember.

And Yes a P25 affilited radio has to be on one of these talk groups for it to show up on the SAUA system.

I was more specifically wondering if the P25 side is permanently bridged to the EDACS side just waiting for a radio to affiliate and carry traffic, or if a dispatcher has to initiate the patch. Since it is for interoperability I would assume a radio user can just turn on his or her radio and go, but since many of the CID groups are linked, it may not be the case across the board

From what I was told by a radio tech awhile back that some channels mainly dispatch channels are bridged just waiting for a APX radio to land on them (with DPS as the main agency that has access to the system). As for the others such as the Fire stuff and other agencies he never got into that. As for the PD CID channels I have personally never heard them on the SAUA system. Access to those channels on the EDACS side is very limited to agencies outside of SAPD, some DPS and some Federal task force guys have access as well as some county investigators. So I don't know if someone has heard all of those channels on the SAUA system.

On another note about the system when I have a scanner on an SAUA system takgroup and a Harris XG-75 on a the same channel the P25 system talkgroup will skip some traffic then show back up and drop off completely. So it really has to do with who is on the on the P25 side and if they like to switch back and forth between channels.

That more or less makes sense and jives with what I was thinking. I have heard Immigration, Narc and ROPE personally from the Zarzamora tower near my office so I suspect someone federal or state or a member of the task forces does have P25 access if needed to keep in contact. Still somewhat surprised that much of their traffic is in the clear but with phase 2 not far down the road we had better enjoy it while it lasts.

PD has 16 encrypted channels and they do use them from time to time. Depends on the operation so they can disappear if they want. Same with using PTT apps on their phones.
